Easter smiles at Loaves & Fishes Community Food Bank!

Our volunteers recently had the joy of giving Easter cards to our clients, and their gratitude was heartwarming. They shared how much the groceries from our food bank help them, how much they enjoy the nutritious breakfasts at The Café, and how much they appreciate everyone being so nice.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. Supporting our community with care, kindness, and compassion.

A huge THANK YOU to Guy's Tire Sales Inc. and our amazing community!

Through the Tubes for Food drive, Guy’s Tires helped collect 144 pounds of food and toilet paper, along with $380 in cash donations for Loaves & Fishes Community Food Bank.

Your generosity helps us continue supporting people who are hungry in our community.

Kandice & Paul’s Story
Kandice and Paul have been visiting the Food Bank for more than five years. They say it's been a vital support system that helps them make ends meet, especially as grocery prices continue to rise. Both are on ODSP and OW and often face the difficult choice between paying rent or buying groceries.
The Food Bank and The Café have become more than just a place to get food; they are a source of connection and community. “The Café really helps with social isolation,” says Kandice. “The coffee is good, and the volunteers are always so friendly.” They both love the delicious food, especially the baked goods. “They’re amazing,” adds Paul.
Kandice shares that before coming to The Café, she would often skip breakfast on most days. Now, she enjoys a warm meal and good company to start her day.
Currently, Kandice and Paul are on a waiting list for affordable housing. Despite the challenges, they stay positive and grateful for the community that has supported them along the way.
Interestingly, their story began over a cup of coffee. They first met at a church coffee shop.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day — but for many in our community, it’s also the hardest to afford.

Every year on September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed. This day commemorates the children who never made it home, Survivors of residential schools, along with their families and communities. Public remembrance of this tragic, painful history and its ongoing effects is essential to the reconciliation journey.
