🐾 SHERLOCK UPDATE🐾

Yesterday was a rough day for our little Sherlock.

He was quite sick when he was admitted to the emergency vet and, in addition to IV fluids and medications, he ended up needing a feeding tube to help get him through the worst of it.

Thankfully, sometime in the middle of the night, our little fighter started to turn a corner! ❤️

This morning, he was showing normal puppy behaviours and, even better, he has started eating on his own again without the feeding tube. His vomiting and diarrhea have also stopped.

We are incredibly relieved to see these improvements, but we aren't out of the woods yet. Parvo is an unpredictable and devastating virus, and things can change very quickly. We are keeping our fingers crossed that Sherlock continues moving in the right direction.

Virginia is also still healthy, and we are desperately hoping she manages to escape this awful virus. 🤞

Now, we need to talk about the financial side of this emergency.

First, THANK YOU to everyone who has already donated towards the puppies' medical care. We have raised $700 so far, and we are so grateful.

However, we still need to raise $8,814 to cover these unexpected veterinary expenses.

And this is happening at the same time that we are preparing for Trooper's surgery, which is expected to cost approximately $3,200.

That's a tremendous amount for a small, entirely volunteer-run rescue to take on, but we aren't giving up on these dogs.

❤️ HOW YOU CAN HELP:

🐾 Donate through our new Zeffy fundraising link. Credit cards and other payment options are available. https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/parvo-puppies-3

🐾 E-transfer donations can be sent to:
[email protected])

🐾 We are also in need of puppy pads and gastrointestinal (gastro) food for the puppies.

Every donation, no matter how small, helps us continue providing the care these puppies desperately need.

If you can't donate, sharing this post helps more than you know.

We take these dogs into our care because they deserve a chance at a healthy, happy life. We can't always prevent emergencies like this, but we will do everything we can to get them through them.

Thank you for standing behind us, believing in our work, and helping us fight for these little lives. We truly cannot do this without you ❤️🐾

Thank you so much to those who have donated to help the parvo puppies. We deeply appreciate it. A special thanks to Lydia for her extremely generous donation of $500 ❤️

WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP 💔

Sadly, Anna's brother, Sherlock, has started showing symptoms of parvo.

He was completely fine last night, but by this morning he was sick. His fosters acted quickly, got him seen immediately, and as expected, he tested positive for parvo.

Unfortunately, Sherlock is sicker than Anna. However, because his fosters recognized the signs so quickly, we were able to get him into life-saving treatment within just a couple of hours of symptoms appearing.

His bloodwork wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either, and we are cautiously optimistic that he has a good chance of pulling through.

Sherlock has now been admitted to Niagara's emergency veterinary hospital, where he will receive round-the-clock care.

Now, let's talk about the financial reality.

We paid $5,100 to hospitalize Anna. We do expect to receive a small portion back, but her final bill will still be over $4,000. We will share her invoice once we pick her up later today, as she is being discharged this afternoon. UPDATE-total was $4070. Invoice in pictures

Today, we also had to provide a $5,444 deposit for Sherlock's hospitalization.

That means we have spent $9,514 in just 48 hours.

And we're not out of the woods. There are still one or two puppies who could potentially develop symptoms over the coming days.

We are a very small, foster-based rescue. We receive absolutely no government funding, and unexpected expenses of this magnitude are devastating for an organization our size.

We desperately need your help.

These puppies came to us through a humane society. They had completed their quarantine period in a foster home before being flown here. Anna became sick within 12 hours of arriving.

We never anticipated this.

When we take puppies directly from remote northern communities, we prepare ourselves for the very real risk of parvo. But these puppies weren't supposed to be high-risk intakes.

Now, we're facing something we never expected, and we're doing everything in our power to save them.

Parvo treatment is incredibly expensive, but these puppies deserve every chance at life. We are not going to give up on them.

If you are able to donate, even a few dollars will help.

Donations can be sent by e-transfer to: [email protected]

If you can't donate, please share this post. You never know who might see it and be able to help.

We absolutely hate having to ask for money, but these are extraordinary and unexpected expenses. We cannot do this alone.

Please help us save Anna, Sherlock, and hopefully prevent any more puppies from becoming critically ill.

They deserve the chance to grow up, find their families, and live the lives every puppy should get to live ❤️🐾

Anna Update ❤️

I spoke with the vet today, and Anna is doing remarkably well! All of her bloodwork and tests have come back looking good. She's eating well, she's bright and alert, and thankfully, she hasn't had any more vomiting or diarrhea.

The vet is hopeful that she'll be well enough to be discharged tomorrow! Of course, we're not out of the woods just yet. Parvo is unpredictable, and things can change in an instant. We're keeping our fingers crossed that she continues heading in the right direction.

A very important reminder: If you have a young, unvaccinated puppy who is showing any signs of gastrointestinal upset (lack of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea) or is acting unusually lethargic, please get them to a vet immediately. Don't wait to see if they improve on their own.

With parvo, early intervention can quite literally be the difference between life and death. The sooner treatment begins, the better the chances of survival.

We could also use a little help. ❤️

Anna's hospitalization and treatment come with unexpected veterinary expenses, and as a small rescue, every emergency like this puts additional pressure on our already limited funds. Parvo treat costs thousands of dollars. We paid $5100 to admit her and will have an accurate invoice once she is discharged of the total costs.

If you're able to contribute toward Anna's care, even a few dollars makes a difference. Your generosity helps ensure that when a puppy like Anna needs emergency medical attention, we can say YES and get them the care they need. Thank you so much to everyone who donated already ❤️

Donations can be sent by e-transfer to [email protected]

If you can't donate, sharing this post is another wonderful way to help!

For now, we're sending all the positive thoughts Anna's way and hoping she has a good night so she can head back to her foster family tomorrow.

We've got our fingers and paws crossed for this little girl! ❤️🐾

💔 It's been a hard day at Legacy of Love. We need your help.

On Wednesday morning, we welcomed three 8-week-old Lab/Terrier mix puppies from Nunavut. These little ones had spent several weeks in foster care there and had been isolated and quarantined before making their journey to us.

We were so excited to finally have them here, safe and on their way to finding loving forever homes.

Unfortunately, today took a heartbreaking turn.

On Wednesday evening, one of the puppies, Anna, was acting a little differently. We initially thought it was stress from travelling and the big changes she had experienced. She had eaten and was having normal, healthy bowel movements.

By Thursday, she wasn't eating much, but otherwise seemed okay. We thought it could be a combination of stress, her first vaccines and a change in food.

When she still hadn't eaten by this morning, I was making arrangements with her foster to get her into the vet. Then she vomited twice.

Our vet got us in right away. We were hopeful it was simply a gastrointestinal upset that could be treated with medication. But because I always insist on testing young puppies with gastrointestinal symptoms for parvo, we ran a test.

It was positive 💔

I was absolutely shocked.

We've notified the Humane Society in Nunavut, as well as everyone involved in her transportation and anyone who may have contact with her littermates. Thankfully, no other puppies are showing symptoms at this time. We are keeping a very close eye on everyone and praying that Anna is the only one affected.

Parvo can take several days to show symptoms, so we suspect she may have been exposed during transportation. We may never know exactly where it happened.

The one positive in all of this is that we caught it early.

Anna hasn't progressed to the severe vomiting and diarrhea stages that we often associate with parvo. We didn't want to take any chances, so we admitted her to the hospital immediately to begin intensive, life-saving treatment.

We are fighting for this little girl, and we are hopeful she will pull through. ❤️

But now comes the financial reality.

We had to pay a $5,100 deposit to have Anna admitted to Beattie Animal Hospital in Stoney Creek for 24-hour emergency care.

Her final bill could be higher or lower depending on how she responds to treatment and what she needs over the coming days. As always, we will share the final invoice so everyone can see exactly where the money goes.

And this is happening while we are also preparing for Trooper's upcoming surgery.

Between Anna's emergency hospitalization, Trooper's surgery and the ongoing veterinary expenses for the dogs in our care, we have some HUGE bills to tackle right now.

We cannot do this alone. We need our community more than ever.

If you are able to help with Anna's medical expenses, donations can be sent by e-transfer to:

We started Legacy of Love because we believe these dogs deserve a chance, regardless of where they come from or the circumstances they were born into.

We don't receive government funding. We rely on the generosity of people who believe in what we do.

There are dogs waiting for help in northern communities, dogs who have never known the comfort of a home, and puppies like Anna who need us to fight for them when things go wrong.

We want to keep saying YES to those dogs. But we can only do that with your support.

Please help us give Anna the best possible chance at life. And please keep her in your thoughts as she fights this battle.

❤️ From all of us at Legacy of Love, thank you for standing behind us and the dogs who need us.

🐾 TOONIE TUESDAY! 🐾 Update-thank you to everyone who donated. We ended up with $200, so I'm going to send $50 to the Avirart Humane Society to help cover their cost of sending the puppies to Winnipeg (we paid for Winnipeg to Hamilton Ontario)

✈️ These sweet puppies are flying in tonight from Nunavut, and we need your help! ❤️

We still need to raise $150 to cover the cost of their flight. Can we do it? 🥹🐶

Once these three little ones arrive, they’ll each need routine veterinary care to get them started on their journey to finding loving forever homes. By covering their transportation costs now, we can keep more funds available for the veterinary care they’ll need.

💰 Every $2 makes a difference! It might not seem like much, but when we all come together, those toonies add up and help us make a BIG difference in the lives of vulnerable Canadian dogs.

🐾 Can you spare a toonie today to help these puppies get here safely?

❤️ Don’t forget, if you can’t donate, sharing this post helps too! Every share helps us reach more people who may be able to contribute.

❤️ Mama Brie is living her BEST life! 🐾

Remember Brie, the sweet mama who came to us from Kashechewan with puppies on the way? Well, this beautiful girl has officially found her happily ever after! 🥹💕

Brie, now Pella, has been adopted by a wonderful family and is enjoying life as a pampered pet.

No more living as a stray. No more endless litters of puppies. No more fending off male suitors. No more simply surviving.

Now, she gets to do what every dog deserves to do: just be a dog 🐶

She gets to be loved, spoiled, safe, and cherished. She gets a family of her own, a cozy place to sleep, and people who will make sure she never has to fend for herself again.

After everything she has been through, seeing Mama Brie get her happily ever after is exactly why we do what we do. ❤️

Her puppies will always be part of her story, but now it's finally her turn to be the baby 🥰

Happy tails, sweet Pella! May your new life be filled with all the love, comfort, and happiness you deserve. You will never be just another stray again. You are family. ❤️🐾

🐶❤️ Helping Kids and Dogs Build a Safe, Loving Bond! ❤️🐶

Looking for a way to strengthen the bond between your children and your dog while teaching them how to interact safely?

This is such an important part of raising children alongside dogs! 🐾

Dogs are wonderful companions for children, but it's essential that kids learn how to understand a dog's body language, respect their boundaries, and interact with them in ways that help everyone feel safe and comfortable.

🐾 This program can help your children learn how to:

❤️ Interact with dogs safely and respectfully

🐶 Understand what dogs are communicating through their body language

❤️ Recognize when a dog needs space

🐾 Build trust and strengthen their bond with their furry family member

❤️ Help prevent dog bites by learning appropriate ways to approach and interact with dogs

Teaching children these skills doesn't just help keep them safe. It also helps our dogs feel more secure, understood, and comfortable in their homes.

Dog bite prevention starts with education! The more we teach children about respecting dogs and understanding their needs, the better we can protect both our children and our beloved four-legged family members. 🐕❤️

🙏 Please share this post and help spread the word! This kind of education is so important for parents, children, and dogs alike. You never know who in your community might benefit from it!

Let's help create safer, happier homes for kids and dogs! 🐾❤️
