Somewhere in our community right now, a woman is afraid for her life. Tonight, she is lying awake, listening for footsteps in the dark and bracing for what comes next. She knows she has to leave.

What she doesn't know is whether a bed will be waiting.

Your support helps ensure that when the moment comes, Birchway Niagara can say:

"Yes."

It is hard to believe that the first day of school is already around the corner!

Our allies at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Fenwick recently helped children and youth staying at Birchway Niagara get ready for the return to the classroom with a generous collection of school supplies.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to make the start of a new school year a little easier for the families we support!

The July update from the Ontario Association of Interval & Transition Houses (OAITH) confirms that 25 femicides have occurred in Ontario since November 26, 2025, including two confirmed femicides in July. Four additional cases remain unconfirmed at this time.

Behind this number are women whose lives were taken, and families, friends and communities grieving their loss.

This month’s report highlights why preventing gender-based violence requires action at every level. OAITH points to the important role governments play when they recognize intimate partner and gender-based violence as community safety issues, strengthen collaboration and create pathways to support and early intervention.

Femicide is preventable. As we remember those whose lives have been lost, we must continue working toward communities where survivors can access safety and support before violence becomes lethal.
