It is an exciting time of change at the Plymouth Community Centre! As Chair of the Board for the past decade, I am pleased to be passing on this honor to another dedicated community member.
On Wednesday the Association held its Annual General Meeting.
At the meeting we elected a new board to help guide decisions as we build our Child Care Project.
Bert Meyer was acclaimed as Chair, along with Kaitlyn MacKinnon as Vice-Chair and Sienna Meyer as Secretary-Treasurer. I will continue on the board during this transition as Past President. Thanks so much to these good folks for stepping up for their community!
As we plan next steps in the Day Care Project, we're delighted to have a combination of newly-retired board members and young parents willing to serve as volunteers and on the Child Care Project Steering Committee.
In my AGM report, I gave thanks to special people who have contributed to the history of our community for many years.
- Ruth Thompson, Secretary-Treasurer and dedicated volunteer
- Cheryl Lays, Board Member, leader in fitness and music
- Dorothy Benoit, Board Member, dedicated volunteer
- Margie MacDonald, Board Member, youth mentor/leader
- Bob MacDonald, Board Member, landscape director
- Ila Mackenzie, Board Member, Golden Glen Seniors lead
- Peter Clark, dedicated volunteer/ lawn care
- Rodney Bond, dedicated maintenance supervisor
- Gordon Sutherland, community volunteer/sign design and display
- Betty Mae Madden, community volunteer/sign design and display
- Mike Hecimovich, community volunteer, Springville Ballfield and Play Area
- Mary Batchilder, community volunteer, musical inspiration and leadership
- Dave Anderson, community volunteer, welcoming all as emcee
- Anita Wynands, community volunteer with music events
As an educator and given the history of the Plymouth School/ Community Centre, I believe that the planned Day Care is the perfect next step for our community. There's been a school on this property from 1865 until 1974. We are taking this community owned property back to its original purpose, to support our young and growing families.
I look forward to working with our new Board and volunteers to make it a great success!
Thank you!
Janet MacDonald, Past-President
