Doulas and birthworkers support everyone during birth, not just the birthgiver.
When it comes to childbirth, the role of doulas and birthworkers extends beyond just supporting the person giving birth. Here’s how we also uplift birth partners:
1. Emotional Support: We provide reassurance and comfort, helping partners manage their own emotions during this intense experience. We can step in if a partner needs to step out for a minute to use the bathroom, eat, or even just take a breath to reset themselves.
2. Education and Information: We offer evidence-based information, empowering partners to feel informed and involved in decision-making.
3. Physical Support: Doulas and birthworkers assist with comfort measures like breathing techniques and positioning, allowing partners to focus on their role without feeling overwhelmed.
4. Encouragement: We encourage partners to engage in the process, helping them feel confident in providing support, whether it’s holding a hand or offering words of affirmation.
5. Team Collaboration: We facilitate communication between the birthing person and the healthcare team, ensuring that everyone’s needs are heard and respected.
With a doula or birthworker by your side, both you and your partner can feel more prepared and supported throughout the journey.
