We are the Nanaimo Chinese Women’s Society (NCWS) - a BC registered, non-profit organization that is non-political and without religious bias. The NCWS is comprised of ethnic and immigrant Chinese businesswomen, highly-educated professionals, silent heroes (those unheralded women working to support and care for their families), and friends. Although not feminist advocates per se, we are imbued with a positive sense of independence and a desire to constantly nourish our spirit.
Our Mandate
Our primary goals are to create a platform for members and friends to demonstrate their talent, intrinsic beauty and love, and to enlist diverse social services to help immigrant women and their families to better integrate into Canadian society - with minimal culture shock. Toward thisend, we will sponsor and deliver diverse activities to enable these families to adapt and developa sense of comfort and security within their adopted country. Our Action Plan
We are committed to helping immigrant women and their families understand and meet the unfamiliar challenges encountered during daily life in Canada. Further, we will assist immigrant women in networking, forging careers, and realizing business concepts so they can both enrich and meld into the mainstream of business, community and society. We will facilitate the creation of various support and action groups involving not only immigrant women, but also ethnic youth, seniors and disenfranchised individuals. We will organize cultural, recreational, community and fund-raising activities, conduct associated seminars and surveys, and promote the strengths of diversity and multiculturalism.
