πŸ’œ Meet Your Guider β€” Wandalee G.!

This week we're spotlighting a Guider who volunteers with three units and is always one of the first people to volunteer for District Events.

Meet Wanda Lee, Guider with 7th Sparks, 8th Embers, and 8th Guides!

πŸ“Œ Years Guiding: I am on my third year guiding and was a non member volunteer for several years

πŸ“Œ Her superpower: Unit and event photographer, cookie seller extraordinaire, and amazing face painter

πŸ“ŒWhy she volunteers: "I volunteer for the socializing and activity I get to do with Guiding. Like selling cookie and hearing story from people who have done Guiding in the past, and seeing the different with how Guiding experiences have changed how the girls interact with others and the world around them."

Wandalee is proof that doing what you love can become a gift to the next generation. We're so lucky to have her. πŸŒΏπŸ’›

Unit Spotlight Saturday β€” Look what our 8th Mount Pearl Embers have been up to!

This week, our Embers had a sleepover at the Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium. They got to learn all about our oceans and the many creatures that live in it. They even got to touch a few of them!✨

Besides the awesome programming that the Mini Aquarium offers, the Embers had lots of snacks, watched a movie, and had a great sleep!

Watching these young women grow in confidence, creativity, and teamwork is why we do what we do. We couldn't be prouder. πŸ’ͺπŸ’›

πŸ’œ Meet Your Guider* β€” Beverly!

Every week this month, we're pulling back the curtain to introduce you to the incredible volunteers who make Marconi District what it is. First up: Beverly

πŸ“Œ Unit: 17th Mount Pearl Pathfinders, 1st Mount Pearl Rangers

πŸ“Œ Years Guiding: I have been a Guider for three years, but was in Brownies (Embers) as a child. My mom was one of my guiders.

πŸ“Œ Fun fact about Beverly: "I have a little backyard greenhouse where I only grow pizza and nacho toppings. Hot peppers, green onions, tomatoes, oregano, etc.
My Pathfinders and Rangers have cooked with me enough that this wont surprise them πŸ™‚"

When asked why she volunteers, Beverly said: "I originally volunteered because my daughter’s unit was at risk of closing due to a shortage of Guiders.
I stayed, and joined a second unit, because the youth and my fellow Guiders are so fun to be around. I try something new or learn something new every week.
I love connecting the youth with potential interests - engineering, biology, cake decorating, history, art, camping, etc. - and seeing their imagination spark. It’s great to see where Guiding leads them as they grow up. "

We are so grateful for Guiders like Beverly who give their time, energy, and heart to the girls of Marconi District. πŸ’›

🌟 Marconi District is SO proud of two of our amazing Rangers β€” Emily S. and Emily H. are heading to Toronto! ✈️

This week, our Emilys are representing Marconi District at Career Compass β€” a national Girl Guides of Canada event held at York University. πŸŽ“

Career Compass was created by Girl Guides of Canada to help girls and youth feel supported as they explore future pathways and build leadership skills. It makes career readiness practical, engaging, and fun through accessible, youth-driven programming β€” and we can't think of two better Rangers to experience it.

Emily and Emily: we are cheering you on every step of the way. Go show Toronto what Marconi girls are made of! πŸ’ͺπŸ’›

Did you know that Pathfinders (ages 12–14) and Rangers (ages 15–18) in Girl Guides have access to incredible travel and leadership opportunities β€” both nationally across Canada and internationally? From events like Career Compass to global adventures, Guiding opens doors that last a lifetime.

Girl Guides of Canada is looking for adult volunteers to be part of new units opening in your community!

As part of a unit’s leadership team, you’ll facilitate fun and engaging program activities, including outdoor exploration, community involvement, crafts, STEM activities, games and more with our Sparks (ages 5-6), Embers (ages 7-8) and Guides (ages 9-11). No previous experience with Girl Guides as a girl or adult member is required.

Volunteers receive access to free trainings, mentorship and a digital program platform stocked with age-appropriate activities and meeting tools, as well as training on how to deliver activities in ways that will empower and encourage girls.

An average time commitment of 3 - 5 hours per week for unit meetings and planning is expected. Additional hours may be needed for special events or trips. Part-time roles are available if weekly attendance doesn't suit your schedule. For any questions please contact Kate at [email protected] or apply here - Join our Team - www.girlguides.ca/volunteer
