🏠 Access to Home and Community Care: Modest Gains, Major Gaps Remain

Findings from the 2025 Ageing in Canada Survey show slight improvements in access to home and community care — but many older Canadians still face significant barriers.

• 51% of those who needed home care were able to access it all or most of the time, up from 48% in 2024
• Older adults with adequate incomes were most likely to receive the care they needed

⏳ Cost and wait times remain major barriers:
• 41% reported long wait times for home care, nearly doubling since 2024
• 23% cited cost as a barrier to home care
• The number of older adults who said long wait times was a barrier to community support services nearly doubled in just one year, jumping from 23% in 2024 to 41% in 2025.
