Our food system isn’t failing because we can’t produce enough, instead the world already produces around 1.5× the food we need.
Industrial agriculture’s heavy reliance on monocultures and chemical inputs degrades soil, pollutes water, and has contributed to huge biodiversity loss, making crops more vulnerable and communities less resilient. Sustainable (regenerative) agriculture protects biodiversity, rebuilds soil health, and strengthens long-term food security.

Women are central to this shift: in many low-income countries, women grow a large share of food crops and hold vital knowledge that supports biodiversity and resilience, yet they often lack access to land, finance, training, and other farming resources.

At AWE Global, we believe sustainable agriculture and women’s economic empowerment go hand-in-hand. By building women’s skills to treat farming as a business and as agroecological stewardship, we can help create reliable incomes while improving family nutrition, community wellbeing, and the health of local ecosystems.

When you fund women, the impact multiplies.
Evidence shows women are more likely to reinvest their income back into their families and communities-supporting health, education, and nutrition. In fact, research commonly cited by Harvard Business Review (2011) suggests women reinvest around 90% of their income in their families, compared with around 35% for men.
That’s why AWE backs women-led livelihoods: because investing in women doesn’t just change one life, it strengthens entire households and communities.

In 2026, the UN’s International Year of the Woman Farmer (led by FAO) puts a spotlight on women’s essential role in feeding communities—and the barriers they still face, from land tenure to finance, training, and access to services.
At AWE, we’re using this momentum to push for practical, on-the-ground support for women in agricultural food systems, including through our upcoming partnership project in Malawi with Emerge Livelihoods.

We’re proud to share that AWE is partnering with Emerge Livelihoods on an upcoming women’s economic empowerment project in Malawi.
Emerge Livelihoods supports women and girls to strengthen livelihoods through entrepreneurship and enterprise support. They combine practical business skills-building with mentorship/coaching and pathways to seed funding and finance, while intentionally amplifying women’s participation in economic opportunities.
Together, this partnership will help AWE deliver locally grounded programming with stronger on-the-ground networks and scalable support, allowing more women entrepreneurs to grow income and drive change in their communities.

This Sunday, March 8, we mark International Women’s Day, and this year’s call is “Give To Gain”: when we give, we all gain.
At AWE, we teach women entrepreneurs the skills they need to build sustainable micro-enterprises and create long-term livelihoods. That’s why we’re so excited to partner with Emerge Livelihoods for an upcoming project in Malawi. Emerge delivers business incubation support, including training, coaching, mentorship, and access to finance. Furthermore, Emerge is working to increase women’s participation in economic activities across Malawi.
Because funding women isn’t just the right thing to do - it’s one of the most effective ways to strengthen families, grow local economies, and build resilient communities.

Women are the backbone of our global food systems. They help protect biodiversity, preserve ancestral knowledge, and nourish communities, yet they remain under-recognized and under-resourced.
