NECEF Sabeel Canada (Canadian Friends of Sabeel) responds to calls for solidarity from the Palestinian community by faithfully engaging, educating and equipping the Canadian Christian community and our partners as we pursue our shared calling and vision. Our vision is to energize the Canadian Christian community as we pursue a durable peace – rooted in justice, freedom, equal rights, and the principles of nonviolence. Our efforts are guided by the Christian values and principles of non-violence, justice, peace, and solidarity. We work with communities of all faiths and like-minded organizations with similar values to tell the truth.

Statement by the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem on the Settler Attack in Taybeh.
"This wild attack on the Christian village of Taybeh and against its peaceful population is not an isolated incident. In the past weeks the Palestinian villages of the West Bank have been exposed to a wide-scale terror by settlers, which is reaching a peak during this time of the olive harvest, when families go to their lands to collect what they need to live and renew their generations-long bond with their lands. In this regard, we consider the religious ruling recently published, allowing Jews to take the olives of Palestinians, as unfounded, very worrying and dangerous, and absolutely unacceptable. We very much appreciate that several rabbis and Jewish voices have publicly rejected it."

CFOS welcomes the announcement by the Canadian government that, together with European allies, Canada intends to impose a ban on the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine. This marks the first time that the Canadian government has employed economic sanctions against Israel for violations of international law.

While these sanctions are significant, we believe they are not enough. Canada’s diplomatic and economic response must match the severity of the violence Israel continues to inflict on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, with full recognition that Israel is in violation of international law, the Geneva Conventions, and UN resolutions.

Canada continues to contribute to and benefit from the occupation through investments, arms transfers, charitable tax breaks, and other means. Canada must impose sanctions strong enough to respond to these realities and to end Israel’s illegal occupation and its
systems of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide.

Sabeel and other Palestinian Christian organizations have been calling on us to support BDS. Our open letter calls on the Canadian government to impose stronger, broader sanctions against Israel for its breaches of international law.

CFOS commemorates three years since Israel’s most recent escalation of its genocide against Palestinians.

We invite you to join us for our 2026 JGML lecture “From Conscience to Action: How Citizens Become Agents of Change” tonight, October 7. Let us come together in prayer, mourning, and community to commemorate the lives lost to genocide and to consider how we—individiually and collectively—can turn grief into meaningful action for Palestinians.

Earlier this month, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK confirmed their intention to support sanctions against Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law. In response, Israel ordered the UK Consulate in occupied East Jerusalem to close within 30 days.

Holy God, we pray that more and more leaders will act with wisdom and courage to pursue just and lasting peace. Continue to hear the cry of the oppressed suffering from settler violence and deliver us from the many forms of oppression. Lord, we remember the words of Prophet Isaiah: “Help us learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17)
