🏆 The Canada Deaf Games are returning to Montreal in 2027! 🇨🇦

In 2024, during the closing ceremony of the Canada Deaf Games in Toronto, then-President Donald Prong announced that ASSQ had been selected to host the next Canada Deaf Games, which were originally scheduled to take place in Quebec City in the summer of 2028.

Since then, the context has evolved, particularly with the establishment of a clearer international competition calendar. The Pan American qualifiers will take place in the fall of 2028, followed by the Summer Deaflympics in the summer of 2029.

After consulting with ASSQ to explore the possibility of moving the Canada Deaf Games forward to 2027, CDSA concluded that this new date would allow for better planning and preparation of our national summer sport teams for international competitions in 2028 and 2029.

ASSQ and CDSA were also able to negotiate a partnership with AlterGo that will make it possible to hold the Games in Montreal in the spring of 2027, alongside the Défi sportif AlterGo, which the organization hosts annually.

Through this partnership, the three organizations will be able to combine their resources and expertise to offer a high-quality, unifying event for the entire community.

🎉 We are therefore pleased to officially announce that five sports will be featured:
🎳 Bowling
🏓 Table Tennis
🏸 Badminton
🏐 Volleyball
🏀 Basketball

The competitions will take place over one weekend, from April 30 to May 2, 2027.

This will be an extraordinary opportunity for the Deaf and hard of hearing community to take part in a major sporting event, share their passion for sport, meet other athletes, and enjoy valuable moments of social connection and camaraderie.

🤝 CDSA 2026 AGM and release of the 2025-2026 Annual Report

On September 26, in Ottawa, delegates from the provincial Deaf sports associations : BCDSF, ADSA, MDSA, ODSA and ASSQ, gathered for the CDSA Annual General Meeting. 🇨🇦

✨ A few highlights from the AGM:
👉 Amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws: several amendments were adopted, including one granting voting rights to the three representatives for athletes, coaches and team leaders.
👉 Adoption of reports: presentation and adoption of various reports, including the financial statements and the 2025-2026 Annual Activity Report.
👉 New President: Nyla Kurylowich of Alberta was elected President of the Board of Directors. She becomes the second woman in CDSA history to hold this position, following the late Joanne Robinson. 👏
👉 Board of Directors: Erica Rivard of Ontario was elected as a Director for a three-year term.
👉 Tribute to Donald Prong: CDSA recognized his exceptional commitment after more than 10 years of service on the Board of Directors, including six years as President. 💙
👉 Upcoming Canada Deaf Games: an announcement is coming this Saturday… stay tuned! 👀

With the Winter Deaflympics just months away in Austria, 28 Canadian athletes are preparing to represent their country across four sports: cross-country skiing, curling and ice hockey. But without the funding needed to get them there, their participation is far from guaranteed.

🇨🇦🥌 On September 26 and 27, the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship took place in New Westminster, British Columbia.

The championship also served to determine which team will represent Canada at the upcoming Winter Deaflympics ❄️, taking place this January in Austria.

In a best-of-three series, Team Manitoba came out on top with two decisive wins over Team British Columbia. 👏

🎉 Congratulations to Susanne Beriault and Shawn Demianyk, who will proudly represent Team Canada at the Winter Deaflympics in Austria! 🇨🇦

It’s official! We are proud to introduce the 21 athletes who will represent Canada in men’s ice hockey at the 2027 Winter Deaflympics in Austria! 🇨🇦❄️

👏 Congratulations to all the athletes selected to be part of Team Canada!

From January 15 to 24, 2027, these players will proudly wear Canada’s colours on the international stage and showcase Canadian Deaf sport.
