One year ago, Colorectal Cancer Canada launched the major undertaking of the campaign to lower the colorectal cancer screening age from 50 to 45 for average-risk Canadians. What began as a bold call to action has grown into a national movement!
A major milestone was achieved on March 10, 2026, when survivors, caregivers, advocates, and supporters gathered on Parliament Hill to deliver a powerful message to legislators: 50 is too late. Our ""Blue Wave"" united voices from across the country to call for earlier screening and equitable access to lifesaving prevention measures for all Canadians, regardless of where they live.
This campaign is generating momentum and bringing meaningful change. Prince Edward Island and Ontario have officially committed to lowering the screening age to 45, and Nunavut has confirmed its intent to do the same within the next action cycle (12 months). British Columbia, Alberta, New Brunswick, and several other provinces and territories are actively reviewing the evidence and assessing pathways for implementation.
To help accelerate progress in provinces where response has been slower, we are launching targeted letter-writing campaigns in Manitoba, Quebec, and Newfoundland & Labrador to encourage their governments to make earlier screening a priority.
In just one year, has transformed urgency into action and pushed earlier colorectal cancer screening higher on the health policy agenda across Canada. We will keep pushing until every average-risk Canadian, no matter where they live, has access to lifesaving screening at 45, not 50.
