Imagine if everyone on McGill campus contributed spare change to a charitable cause. Together all of this small change could result in big changes! Change for Change is an international network of young adults who are improving communities through philanthropy. Through our Chapter at McGill, college students and young professionals are raising funds for community charities through the collection o
f loose change and larger donations. At McGill University, Change for Change aims to become the most predominant change-collection charity on campus. When you think about campus life, no single charity comes to mind that predominantly and regularly collects change. Over the past few years, all proceeds have gone to preventing youth poverty and combating homelessness. Our past charities include Refuge des jeunes (http://www.refugedesjeunes.org/) and Share the Warmth (http://sharethewarmth.ca/). Each year, we decide on a new charity to support. In the past, we have focused on issues including: homelessness by fundraising for the Benedict Labre House, women’s rights by fundraising for Artistri Sud, and mental health by working with the Montreal organization AMI-Quebec. This year, we will be working hand-in-hand with the Old Brewery Mission Foundation, an organization that aims to stifle the prominent issue of homelessness through working with Montreal's homeless people. We are a group of creative, passionate individuals who try to host fun, educational, and interesting events with the goal of fundraising for important causes. We have hosted events including: a Harry Potter Night, a Salsa Night, samosa sales, coffee sales and more. For the remainder of the semester, we are hosting a St. Patrick’s Day themed event, an event at Bar des Arts (BDA) and a Puppy Therapy event during exam seasons.
