PAMA

NA ng LuzViMinda Philippine Folkloric Dance Company was founded in 2005, by Leticia Bulotano, in the hopes of preserving traditional Filipino songs and dances in the youth of the Filipino-Canadian community in Montreal. PAMANA was established with a two-fold mission statement: As a cultural organization, PAMANA seeks to instil into its young performing members a sense of cul-tural awareness, dignity, and identity; and as a folk dance company, PAMANA seeks to preserve and represent the diversity of the Philippine culture in the multicultural mosaic of Quebec and Canada. Currently our company boasts a membership of more than forty dancers, between the ages of seven to twenty-nine years-old. The major-ity of our performing members are between the ages of twelve to eighteen-years-old. Founded on a purely volunteer basis and pri-marily a youth led initiative, Executive Board Directors, Production Team, and all perform-ing members organize and direct PAMANA activities out of their desire to perpetuate the Philippine culture to future generations. PAMANA seeks to achieve these two goals through the transmission of cultural dances and songs, with its young members as its primary ambassadors both to the wider community and to its newest, youngest members. PAMANA unveils a repertoire as diverse as the many regions of the archipelago; from the exotic Muslim south, crossing over the festive vibrancy of the Christianized lowlands and the refined ur-banity found in Spanish influenced high society, to the serene indigenous mountainous north. Each performance promises to spark appreciation and excitement for the expressive dance and music traditions of the Philippines, a manifestation of the legacy of the pearl of the ocean.
