OISTAT’s Associate Member in Hong Kong, the School of Theatre & Entertainment Arts at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), will host PerformTech Symposium 2027 from Feb 2 to 3, 2027.

PerformTech 2027 is calling for Scholars, researchers, artists, educators, technicians, and performing arts professionals to share your ideas and practices on three subtopics:

🎈 Celebrating 20 Years of OISTAT Headquarters in Taiwan 🎊

🌊 Wave Makers: Shaping global performing arts together.

As the only international organization headquartered in Taiwan, OISTAT marks two decades of shaping global cultural impact today.

On September 1, 2026, OISTAT returned to the National Theater & Concert Hall, the historic site where the initial headquarters relocation agreement was signed in 2005. Joined by the Ministry of Culture Taiwan and local performing arts leaders, OISTAT celebrated a milestone of two decades of cultural impact with headquarters in Taiwan.

As OISTAT President Aby Cohen noted, Taiwan has provided a warm, vibrant base for the global community to thrive. Echoing OISTAT Executive Director Wan-Jung Wei, if semiconductors are about "building mountains," cultural diplomacy is about "creating currents." As people of an island, they know the power of water, waiting for the right tide to create waves of change.

Here’s to the next 20 years of connecting Taiwan to the world through the flow of culture. ✨

Aby Cohen (Brazil) │ President of OISTAT

Aby joined OISTAT in 2003 and has been an active member of the global theatre community ever since. In 2021, she was elected President of OISTAT and has worked closely with the OISTAT Headquarters in Taiwan ever since.

During her visit to Taiwan in 2024, Aby not only joined the Symposium "To Future Theatre and Beyond" as a panelist, but also represented OISTAT in signing an agreement with Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, supporting the continued presence of the OISTAT Headquarters in Taiwan through 2030. She is in Taiwan now for celebrating 20th Anniversary of OISTAT HQ in Taiwan. ✨

Together with the Headquarters, Aby will continue working to build a professional, diverse, and welcoming platform for international theatre practitioners. 🌏 Let's hear the message from Aby to the Headquarters.

#19 Samuel Shih-Hsing Wang (1957-2026, Taiwan) │ Vice President, OISTAT

This June, we said goodbye to Samuel Shih-Hsing Wang, affectionately known as "Sammy" to the OISTAT community around the world. ✨

Sammy played an important role in the journey to bring the OISTAT Headquarters to Taiwan in 2006. He later served as Project Leader of World Stage Design 2017 in Taipei, and in 2021, was elected Vice President of OISTAT.

Throughout his years with OISTAT, Sammy brought Taiwan's voice and experience to the international stage, serving as a vital bridge between Taiwan and the global theatre community. 🌏
