Last week, the SHIP team had the pleasure of meeting with the Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus in Ingersoll.

Thank you to Executive Director Kate Burns Gallagher, Chair Marcus Ryan, and Lisa Post, Mayor of Orangeville and Warden of the County of Dufferin, for the warm welcome and for a thoughtful, collaborative discussion on housing and homelessness strategy.

The conversation highlighted the important work underway across Western Ontario, including SHIP’s health and housing initiatives in the County of Dufferin. Events like these help reinforce the value of strong regional partnerships in addressing complex housing challenges, particularly in rural communities.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect and collaborate. Thank you so much for hearing us, and we look forward working together in the future!

We officially closed our first MentorSHIP Program cohort today, and what a rewarding journey it has been!

Since we kicked things off last September, this program has been filled with meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and continuous growth. Today was a special moment to celebrate the learning and reflect on the impact created together for both Mentors and Mentees who took part.

A heartfelt thank you to all our Mentors and Mentees for your commitment, openness, and dedication throughout the program's first run!

And a special thank you goes out to Shereen Rampersad for sharing her personal story and reflecting on how mentorship has shaped her career and life. Shereen, your insights were truly inspiring and a powerful reminder of the impact mentorship can have.

While this marks the close of our first cohort, the connections and growth will continue well beyond today, both for those who participated in this cohort and for Leadership Development at SHIP moving forward.

Last week, SHIP was honoured to attend Peel Regional Police’s annual Pride ceremony, celebrating Pride Month, dedicated service members, and the strength of community partnerships.

The event featured a speech from SHIP CEO Susan Doyle, who spoke to the importance of supporting those who need it most and ensuring that everyone has access to safe housing, health, and stability. We also appreciated the powerful keynote from RCMP Senior Communications Advisor Jean Turner, representing the Central Region Pride Internal Support Network, who spoke about mental health and wellbeing within both the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and among first responders.

We are incredibly grateful to have been selected as this year’s fundraising recipient, supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth on their journey toward stability and belonging. We also extend our thanks to SEVA Food Bank for providing a wonderful lunch and helping foster a welcoming and inclusive environment.

A sincere thank you to Peel Regional Police for hosting this meaningful event and for your continued commitment to supporting our communities. We also recognize Deputy Chief Lauren Jackson, Superintendent Lisa Hewison, Constable Cass Allen, the Peel Police Services Board, the Peel Pride Internal Support Network, the Peel EDI Unit, Rainbowsauga Alliance, and all volunteers who made the day possible.

Thank you everyone!

Today, teams came together across SHIP for a working-watch party, cheering on Team Canada in their World Cup opener ⚽🍁

It's one-all in overtime as of writing, and we're on the edge of our seats... Let's go, Canada!!!

Of course, no matter who wins, moments like this remind us that connection, teamwork, and shared pride matter both on and off the field. But we'd really like to see the Canadian men's team get its first World Cup point!

Yesterday, in recognition of Red Shirt Day and National AccessAbility Week, staff and clients across SHIP proudly wore red ❤️ to show their support.

Together we stood in solidarity with persons with disabilities and their families, celebrated the many achievements of people living with disabilities, and reaffirmed our commitment to building a fully accessible and inclusive society.

At SHIP, we hold as one of our core values, and that includes creating spaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute 🏡💬🧡

In recognition of National AccessAbility Week, SHIP’s ERG Abilities brought staff together at our Corporate Office for a powerful afternoon of learning and reflection.

We watched Out of My Mind, a film that follows a young girl with cerebral palsy as she navigates the challenges and triumphs of growing up with a disability. Her story sparked meaningful conversation about accessibility in our workplaces, communities, and relationships.

Following the film, staff participated in a thoughtful discussion on the barriers faced by many of our clients, coworkers, and community members. We explored how we can continue to build more inclusive, supportive environments and take action to create real change both at work and in our personal lives.

At SHIP, advancing accessibility is a necessary part of our commitment to Quality Housing, Quality Services, and Quality Lives!
