Every story matters.

Over the past several months, I’ve been so honoured that so many of you have reached out to me to share your heartbreaking stories and experiences with elopement. I’ve heard the fear, the uncertainty, the sleepless nights, and the constant worry that comes with trying to keep a vulnerable loved one safe.

Thank you for trusting me with your stories. I know these experiences are deeply personal, and sharing them isn’t always easy. Every conversation has reinforced why this work matters so much.

Indigo Alert Canada wants bring these experiences into the conversation and help others understand the very real safety risks associated with elopement.

We are inviting individuals, families, and caregivers to share their elopement stories as part of an educational awareness campaign.
Your experiences can help others understand the risks, recognize the warning signs, and see why timely alerts and community awareness can make a life-saving difference.

What happened?

When you practice the Safer 3, your family is safer.
When you share it, your community is too.

Here's what it looks like:
👶 Safer Kids
Swim lessons, close adult supervision, and teaching kids to ask before going near water.

🌊 Safer Water
Barriers like fences and gates, life jackets, and safer places to swim.

🛟 Safer Response
Knowing CPR, having a plan, and being ready to act if something goes wrong.
Three layers. Better together.

📚💙 IT’S RELEASE DAY! Hunter’s Town is officially out! 💙📚

There is something so special about watching Hunter open a book and see himself in its pages. A boy who communicates like he does. Familiar places he loves. A story he belongs in. 🥹

In Hunter’s Town, a missing button on his talker takes us on an adventure around Fredericton as we try to figure out where he wants to go! Along the way, readers get to know a non-speaking boy who has plenty to say…. and the different ways he shares it.

This book is for children who use AAC and deserve to see themselves in stories. It’s for their friends, classmates, and anyone learning that communication comes in many forms. And it’s for families who would love a little adventure through our beautiful city ❤️

Releasing it during AAC Awareness Month makes today even more meaningful.

Inclusion means providing the right support that fosters success for each learner. Would you agree? Disagree? Why/why not?

Does everyone need to be in the same classroom for inclusion to work?

No. And it’s time we started having this conversation.

Inclusion is not simply putting every student in the same room and calling it success.

It’s about belonging. It’s about access. It’s about meaningful participation, appropriate supports, and recognizing that every student learns differently.

For some students, learning alongside their peers in a general education classroom is the right fit for most of the day.

For others, a quieter environment, specialized instruction, sensory breaks, or individualized support may be necessary for them to thrive.

And some students may need a combination of these approaches.

The goal should never be to make every student fit the same classroom. The goal should be to create an education system that recognizes and supports different needs.

We need to stop measuring inclusion by how many hours a student spends in a general education classroom and start asking whether they are learning, participating, communicating, building relationships, and experiencing a genuine sense of belonging.

Because a student can be physically present in a classroom and still be excluded.

And a student can receive support outside the classroom without being excluded from their school community.

These are not contradictory ideas.

Disability inclusion does not mean pretending that everyone has the same needs. It means respecting those differences while ensuring every student has access to education, dignity, opportunity, and belonging.

Inclusion is not one room. It’s a commitment to every student.

Let’s start measuring success by whether students are supported to thrive, not simply by where they sit.
