Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is a time to remember the children who never returned home, to honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Reconciliation begins with truth, listening, learning, and committing to do better. We encourage everyone to wear orange, support Indigenous-led initiatives, and continue the work of building a more just and respectful future for all.

Hey everyone 👋 Steve here with another book review on "We Breed Lions" by Rick Westhead. 📚

I don't know about you, but my whole life, I have been a fan of hockey. NHL, NCAA, World Junior, Olympics, PHWL, does not matter, I will watch it if I have time. As Canadians, we pride ourselves as a hockey nation. And because of that we can ignore parts of the hockey culture that we do not like. But should we ignore it?

Westhead does a wonderful job of talking about the hockey culture in Canada. The book deals with the trial of the London 5, it also talks about concussions, rites of passage in the game, and the silence that there is when players do something illegal. He explores those topics with honesty that is needed and points out how it impacts negatively the young people playing the game, but also those who may get in their way. In the last chapter, Westhead has suggestions for a path forward for hockey in Canada.

If you like the game or know someone who is playing hockey, you will enjoy reading this book – maybe not everything, but it will help us learn and grow, and find better ways to be allies to those who have been hurt by the game or people who play the game. 🏒
