After 9 years, it breaks our hearts, but sadly Smile is having to take a break from providing foster care for 2 reasons.
1/ we have run out of funds! We do ask the owners to cover their pets expenses while they are in our care but they are also struggling and it is not always possible. Then there can be emergency visits to the vet that we sometimes have to cover. We do not want to take on the responsibility of any pets care if we do not have the funds to cover these things if necessary.
2/ we are very short of foster homes, particularly for medium and large sized dogs and therefore have to turn away many that we would love to help.
We have always prided ourselves in being able to direct owners to others that can help when we can't but all shelters seem to be in the same position.
