“Total eclipse! ” … or near enough for those of us in the UK! :sunny: :crescent_moon:
This dramatic tenor aria from Handel’s Samson is the perfect accompaniment to today’s once-in-a-generation solar eclipse as it unfolds across parts of Europe.
Our full performance of Samson, with Stuart Jackson in the title role, is available to watch on Handel for All, whether you want to go straight to the aria, or let the whole oratorio unfold this evening. https://www.englishconcert.co.uk/handel-for-all/samson/
Start watching the video at 6:49pm, and the rousing first line of the aria will perfectly coincide with London’s ‘eclipse maximum’ when the Sun and Moon align. Check online for timings in other places.
And do remember that looking directly at the Sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight, so be sure to enjoy the eclipse safely.
