On June 10, the Logan Lake Community Forest brought Board members and community participants onto the land for Igniting Partnerships: Bringing Fire Back to the Land Around Logan Lake.

The field tour focused on the first prescribed burn planned within the community forest, along with fuel treatments, wildfire resiliency, and the role of fire in supporting healthier forests.

Participants also learned more about LLCF’s work as a community forest, the challenges of maintaining a working forest, and the collaboration involved in bringing prescribed fire back to the landscape responsibly.

Every forest tells a story, and now our logo does too.🪾

As you may know, the Logan Lake Community Forest unveiled a refreshed visual identity that reflects who we are today and the values that guide our work every day. Developed through a collaborative process with input from community members, partners, and industry representatives, the new logo was inspired by the natural elements that shape healthy, resilient forests.

Trees, water, fire, and trails are woven into the design, representing the interconnected relationship between responsible forest management, recreation, conservation, and community well-being.

More than a new look, the refreshed logo is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to stewardship, Indigenous collaboration, and ensuring our forests continue to support the people, land, and future of the Logan Lake area for generations to come.

"Our refreshed brand better reflects who we are today and where we are going." – Randy Spyksma, General Manager

It was great to spend the day out on the land with colleagues and collaborators, including Jodi Axelson and a drought trial site she has now set up on the LLCF (ironically in the welcome rain).

We continue to implement different reforestation strategies in these drier ecosystems hammered by the 2021 Tremont Wildfire.

Assessing conditions, success (or failure) to date and adjusting as we move forward.

- Aspen planting and suckering.
- Climate resilience.
- Site prep.
- Planting stock.
- Obstacles and CWD.
- Cows, deer and wild horses.
- Ranchers and Rec groups.

Appreciate the ongoing support of the Forest Investment Program and must note the long term commitment to forest land stewardship that this journey represents for the LLCF.

Did you know that the LLCF invests annually in reforestation of harvested areas?

When harvesting or other treatments create more significant openings in the forest, there is a requirement to reforest these areas.

Annual planting programs are completed in the spring, always involving a variety of species, and depending on the site, could include Douglas-fir, Ponderosa Pine, Lodgepole Pine, Spruce and Aspen.

We also consider the potential impacts of climate change and climate events on our future forests when deciding what species to plant and what tree seed we use to grow these seedlings.
