Lakeland Regional Safety Committee Promoting the aims, objectives @ Safety programs of the Alberta Construction Safety Assoc (ACSA) and the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA

The Lakeland Regional Safety Committee (LRSC) is comprised of industry leaders that help to organize and update any and all safety related issues within our community. Our membership is based on volunteers and is open to new members and encourages individuals and organizations to get involved. As a group who primarily is dedicated to being pro active and stopping incidents before they happen we un

derstand that until we are at zero incidents there is a demand for being reactive. The Threads of Life organziations was a natural attraction to us as being geared to help families of workplace tragedy. Meetings are held in Lloydminster at the Lloydminster Construction Office with a 15 to 30 minute education component starting at 11:30. This component is member driven, with topic requests submitted by members and knowledgeable people from within the requested industry delivering the information. Attendance at the whole meeting (which runs from 11:00 to 1:00 including lunch) is welcome, but attendees can also attend just the education component if they wish. These sessions cover everything from head to toe, literally. Training from podiatrists regarding foot protection to presentations from suppliers on hard hats and all points in between. Both safety associations have discussed their respective audit documents, presentations have been made by government bodies such as WCB, OH&S, City of Lloydminster Fire Chief and others as well as non-profits such as the Men at Risk Program targeting the higher incidents of su***de and related behaviors in males in the construction and farming industries. New and existing members are welcome to attend and request topics of interest to them and their industry. One of our key activities in the year is organizing the NAOSH week celebration each year. These activities have been in several different venues around the city including National Oilwell Varco, Lloydminster Honda and the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Club. Participants/sponsors have included the RCMP, Lloydminster and rural fire departments, St John Ambulance, Lloydminster Public School Division (school bus safety), ACSA, SCSA, City of Lloydminster Building dept., ATCO Electric, ATCO Gas, many different suppliers of safety products such as fall protection, fire safety, general safety products etc. Demonstrations have included the “Saw Stop”, RCMP rollover display and seat belt convincer, Fire Extinguisher Training by Fire Chief Todd Gustavson, Fall Protection by suppliers from Acklands Granger, ACSA Ride Along Program, Men at Risk Program and many, many others. We’re always looking for new ideas, venues, suppliers, displays and of course – volunteers. Any takes? Contact the LRSC/LCA office at 780-875-8875 - 5420 - 50 Avenue Lloydminster AB more information on upcoming meeting dates, for information about NAOSH week, to request a topic or any other information about the committee.
