ANNUAL ASPHALT PAVING UPGRADES – Beginning August 31st, 2026
The Region of Queens Municipality will be undertaking its annual asphalt paving upgrades in Liverpool beginning Monday, August 31st, 2026, and is expected to be completed in mid-September. The work is part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the local road network and will include the rehabilitation and resurfacing of selected streets.
PAVING LOCATIONS
This year’s paving work will take place on the following streets:
• Trunk 3 – Old Port Mouton Rd to Summer St
• Common St – King St to Wolfe St
• Waterloo St – Ellenwood St to Crowell St
• Waterloo St – Near Old Bridge St
• Parker St – Payzant St to Union St
• Birch Ave – Wolfe St to Civic 28
• MacLeod St – Lower Portion near Henry Hensey Dr
• Main St – Near Legion St
• Main St – Near Gorham St
Work locations may be adjusted based on weather, site conditions, and construction requirements.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Work will generally involve preparation, including the replacement of valves and manholes, milling of keyways/removal of existing asphalt, followed by the placement of new asphalt. Depending on the condition of the roadway, localized repairs may also be completed before paving.
Residents and motorists should expect:
• Temporary traffic control and possible delays;
• Temporary uneven surfaces, dips, or raised pavement edges following milling;
• Construction equipment, noise, and dust;
• Temporary roadway marking; and
• Temporary restrictions to parking or access while work is underway.
Motorists are asked to slow down, use caution, and follow all traffic control measures when travelling through active work areas.
WORK SCHEDULE
Work is weather-dependent, and individual sections of roadway may take anywhere from several hours to several days to complete. Work hours will generally be 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday, although extended hours may be required.
Every effort will be made to minimize impacts to residents, businesses, and motorists while completing this important infrastructure work.

TRAFFIC NOTIFICATION
White Point Road

Public Notice: White Point Road Sidewalk Project

Issued Friday, August 21, 2026: Construction of a new sidewalk on White Point Road, Liverpool, between Meadow Pond Lane and Harley Umphrey Drive, is scheduled to begin on August 24, 2026.

The project will enhance pedestrian safety along a busy section of roadway, providing connectivity from a wooded trail to the sidewalk system in Liverpool, and to businesses, government services and the public library, located on Harley Umphrey Drive.

The work will be carried out by Dexter Construction, weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Traffic control will be in place throughout construction, with one lane closed during working hours and flaggers on each side to maintain safe traffic flow. Construction will continue over the coming weeks. Crews will make every effort to minimize disruption and will restore any disturbed areas as work progresses.

We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the public as this important community improvement project moves forward.

NOTICE TRAFFIC ADVISORY AT LIVERPOOL TOWN BRIDGE

Public Notice: Town Bridge Lift Station Upgrades Resume August 24.

Contractors will be on site starting on Monday, August 24, 2026 to complete the work for the Town Bridge Lift Station project in Liverpool. The work will take place in the right turn lane coming off the bridge onto Henry Hensey Drive. There will be no access to Henry Hensey drive from the existing right turn lane coming off the bridge. The lane will have fencing installed around the work area. The right turn lane to access Henry Hensey Drive will be located next to the outbound lane from Henry Hensey Drive to Market Street.

Entry to Henry Hensey Drive from Market Street and exit from Henry Hensey Drive to Market Street (for both right and left turns) will use the former outbound lane from Henry Hensey Drive onto Market Street.

Signage will be in place during the construction. There may be times during the construction that there will be lane closures or delays resulting from moving equipment. At times when the area is being set up for work to begin, or when equipment is being moved, traffic control will be in place with flaggers directing traffic. Drivers are advised to anticipate that there may be delays in this area.

Pedestrian access to and from Henry Hensey Drive will be maintained throughout the construction through a pedestrian pathway along the right turn lane near the bridge. Access to Market Street for pedestrians will remain unchanged – please use the crosswalks and sidewalk as usual.

Access to the floating dock located near the bridge will not be affected, however some of the parking spaces may be inside the construction fencing.

Public Notice: Upcoming Water Line Repairs on Main Street

The Region of Queens Municipality advises residents that it will be working on water line repairs near 447 Main Street, Liverpool.

Work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, and is expected to last through the day.

Residents near the work zone can expect increased noise, and dust as crews work to complete the repair.

** At this time, it is not believed that water service will be disrupted. **

Main Street from Old Port Mouton Road to Union Street eastbound will be closed to all traffic; detours will be in place for the duration of the repair work. Please follow all posted signage and allow extra travel time if you are travelling through the area.

UPDATE...
Latest on the person with a gun in Chelsea area last night.

16:24. Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a person in possession of a firearm who was linked to an ongoing investigation. During the response, an RCMP officer discharged their service weapon.

On July 9 at approximately 9 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a person in possession of a weapon on Hwy. 210 near Chelsea. Officers identified the man as the same person associated to an ongoing investigation about a suspicious person potentially in possession of a weapon from the previous day. He was the subject of an Alert Ready emergency alert in Lunenburg and Queens counties on July 8.

During the RCMP response, an officer discharged their firearm. The man sustained injuries consistent with a gun shot wound. Officers provided first aid on scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The matter has been referred to the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) as per the Nova Scotia Police Act. SiRT independently investigates all serious incidents which arise from the actions of police in Nova Scotia. There does not have to be an allegation of wrongdoing.

Given the matter is now being investigated by SiRT, the RCMP will respectfully refrain from discussing further details.
