There was one final project to look after this weekend, that being the installation if a Waterfowl Hetirage Fund sign. This sign is temporary, a permanent sign with tubular post to match other signs will be installed later. This is in Listowel Memorial Park, the Hen House in the background is in use. A hen Mallard has finished laying her eggs, they are now being incubated. If you should happen to visit please be respectful of the Hen and stay behind the warning tape, let her sit on her eggs in peace.

As yesterday's post showed, Mallards are still trying to find nesting sites. So, we were still out putting up Hen Houses. Today members Doug Grant, Jim Stirling and William Stirling place a house on a pond bt request.

The struggle is real. Video taken this morning at a storm water management pond in Listowel. We have other Hen Houses already occupied with hens sitting on eggs.

Was out at a local storm water management pond this morning. At this site 2 out of 4 Hen Houses had Mallards sitting on the nest inside the tube. Last year we were 3 out if 4, it's still early! As for boxes we won't know until clean-out; but we were 3 for 4 when cleaned out a month and s half ago.
There were Canada Geese, Mallards, Hooded Mergansers and Bufflehead all in the pond. It made for an interesting walk.

At Big Buck show in Seaforth the Headwaters Chapter awarded a package.. it included a blind bag, waterproof satchel, bird strap, duck ID booklet and a Yeti Rambler cup.

Members of the Headwaters Chapter spent the day manning a booth at The Big Buck Show in Seaforth. This was our second time attending this annual show, had a great time speaking with people regarding Delta Waterfowl, our Chapter, and ducks! Our display was much better this year, highlighting youth participation in hunts, dog, and ducks. A lot if our conversations revolved around increasing duck numbers, the benifits of Wood Duck Boxes and our great success with Hen Houses. We even had a mini-hen house on display.

This morning chapter members Doug Grant, Jim Stirling, and Jim's grandson William painted the steel to be used for Hen Houses and Wood Duck boxes.

It is with regret that the Headwaters Chapter of Delta Waterfowl must announce that we will not be hosting our annual Dinner and Auction this year, 2026.

We apologize to all those who have made our Dinner and Auction an must attend event, and were anticipating a date announcement.

We will return next year on April 10, 2027 with intentions to have an even bigger and better Dinner and Auction than we have hosted in the past. Our hall is reserved, mark it in your calendar.
