Spring floods keep prairie forests healthy! Spring floods recharge river valleys and give cottonwood seedlings a chance to sprout. The Oldman River through Lethbridge is flowing at 670 cubic meters per second right now (equivalent to 3.5 m). Hopefully the riverbanks can stay wet until the cottonwoods release their seeds in the next few weeks. Their fate depends on what the Oldman River Dam releases downstream... stay tuned!
