Kids Can Create operates in partnership with Lethbridge social organizations to create and distribute age-appropriate art and activity kits that provide fun and constructive opportunities for children to express themselves through arts and crafts. Besides providing a much-needed alternative to screen-time, creating art helps children develop motor skills, promotes their thoughtful attention to
tasks, and fosters healthy self-esteem by allowing them to experience pride in accomplishment as they create something that friends, siblings, and loving adults will praise (no matter the level of perfection!) As children explore their artistic abilities they learn a variety of skills that may help improve focus, self-regulation, and develop their own unique interpretations of what is beautiful, worthwhile, and rewarding. Regardless of their level of ability, when children engage in art, they are creating so much more than the craft itself. They construct warm memories, cultivate positive self-impressions of their own capability, and begin to appreciate the value of quiet activities-whether venturing into their projects alone or with the help and encouragement of family members. As a socially-conscious group of students, we are saddened that not every family has the ability to provide these incredibly beneficial artistic experiences for their children. Families facing difficult economic situations may struggle with the funds or the time to purchase art and crafting supplies, and by creating ready-to-go packages containing all materials and instructions needed to make a mini-masterpiece, we hope we can introduce Lethbridge families to the many benefits of art. With the help and support of local businesses, groups, and individuals in our community, we wish to ensure that every family with young children has no-cost access to the materials needed for their children to begin to create! We also wish to highlight and promote efforts being made to improve the lives of Lethbridge families and their children by other groups and organizations. By connecting families to resources, we can help them take advantage of the many important and innovative programs and services aimed at enriching children's lives, promoting their happiness, and facilitating community connections and growth.
