Spring is here and summer is around the corner, or as we at KPAA call it, mural season! 🎨

Summer Berries by Casey Braam is currently the only KPAA mural outside of downtown Kitimat. With birds returning and their songs picking up each morning, it feels like the perfect time to spotlight this piece.

Painted on the side of the Century 21 Northwest Realty building, it is one worth making a point to see in person.

Next time you are in the Nechako neighbourhood, take a look.

Local artist Anna M. Cullen recently completed a new mural inside the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre. It’s so fresh we doubt the paint is even dry! We’ve worked with Anna before, and we’re glad she shared this photo of Big is Beautiful with us. The flowy lines of the deep blues pull the viewer in, and the humpback whales just pop!

Since it’s inside the facility, it’s not something most people would come across in day to day life.

This mural was not a KPAA project, but we’re thrilled to see it and share it here. Have you seen it in person yet?

We 'otterly' adore this mural by Anna M. Cullen at Kitimat's Sam Lindsay Pool.🦦
It’s a playful nod to our coastal surroundings. Inspired by the coast we know so well, the mural feels at home in a space filled with families, movement, and everyday routines. The kind of public art we love at KPAA.

It felt like a good time to reintroduce ourselves.

We’re the Kitimat Public Art Alliance (KPAA), a small group with big goals of bringing more colour and energy to shared spaces through public art.

Since 2022, with financial support from the District of Kitimat, KPAA has helped bring nine public art projects to town, working with talented artists to bring their visions to life and enrich our community.

We look back at what’s been created, highlight what’s happening now, and help hold space for what’s still to come.

Thanks for being here, whether you’re just finding us or you’ve been following along for years.

We’re taking a brief detour from murals to highlight a local film. Check out this beautiful film collaboration created by Kitimat’s own Ice Coast Photography () and Mountain Minaker ()!

This short film was a finalist in the Ardelion Film Awards and the Hawaiian International Film Awards, and features night-sky landscapes from Northwest British Columbia, Iceland, and Kona, Hawaii. These are places most of us won’t experience this way. 🌌

We look forward to seeing more of their artistic productions in the future!

Finalist in the Ardelion Film Awards as well as the Hawaiian International Film Awards. Filmed in Northwest British Columbia, Iceland and Kona Hawaii. Thanks ...

✨ From January 27 to February 9, 2026, the Kitimat Museum will host a beautiful art exhibition honouring the late Margaret Stenson (1939–2024). For those familiar with Kitimat’s art scene, this in-memoriam show will be especially meaningful, as Margaret was a well-known and deeply respected presence in the local arts community for many years.

More details are available on the Kitimat Museum website.

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming exhibition, "Art in Memoriam," showcasing artworks of the late Margaret Stenson (1939–2024). The exhibition will be held at the Upstairs Gallery of the Kitimat Museum & Archives, from Jan 27 to Feb 9.

Remember this wall?
It started as a blank stretch of concrete. Then a plan of action started coming together and little by little, Interconnection by Chris Fraser (Chris Fraser) came to life.

This was KPAA’s first community mural. And it’s still one of our favorite reminders of how public art can bring people together.
