Today the International Court of Justice affirmed that the right to strike is protected under existing International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.
This is an enormous win for workers around the world. Unifor welcomes the opinion, and urges the Government of Canada to take note. Our government's current review of the Canada Labour Code reveals an intention to erode the right to strike through drawn out timelines and forced contracts through imposed binding arbitration.

Chronic underfunding, not financial mismanagement, is the problem in Ontario schools. Year after year they are asked to do more with less.

🌈 On IDAHOBIT, reaffirms our commitment to safe, inclusive, and affirming schools, workplaces, and communities for all 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

This year’s theme, “At the heart of democracy,” is a reminder that attacks on 2SLGBTQIA+ rights are attacks on equity, inclusion, and human dignity.

We stand in solidarity with all those challenging hate and discrimination, today and every day.

A new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives reveals that Ontario’s education funding shortfall has continued to grow, reaching $6.4 billion since 2018.

The outcomes of these cuts have been:

➡️increased waitlists for special education supports
➡️under resourced classrooms
➡️aging infrastructure
➡️no reduction in class sizes
➡️anti-racism programs and additional supports for students from lower-income are eliminated

We can't fix schools without funding them.

MEDIA RELEASE: “The government continues to talk about student achievement, but you cannot improve outcomes while cutting supports” said Martha Hradowy, President of OSSTF/FEEO. “Students succeed when they feel safe, supported, and connected at school. That requires real investment, not just rhetoric. Ontario students deserve more than spare change.”

Once again, the Ford government’s core education funding falls short of what students and schools need and does not address the growing pressures facing students and their families, teachers, and education workers across the province.

It's students who end up paying the biggest price for this government's chronic underfunding. Ontario deserves FAR better!

🐻 Today, we honour Bear Witness Day and the life of Jordan River Anderson.

Jordan spent all five years of his life in hospital, never getting the chance to live at home with his family because governments failed to agree on funding for his care.

His legacy lives on through Jordan’s Principle, which affirms that First Nation children must receive the supports and services they need, when they need them.

Today, we bear witness to the ongoing responsibility to uphold that promise.

OSSTF/FEESO is calling for the elimination of mandatory e-learning.

Mandatory e-learning was introduced as a cost-cutting measure and has resulted in larger class sizes, fewer supports for students, and reduced access to meaningful learning experiences.

In addition, any change in policy restricting cellphone use in schools to be supported by clear policies, consistent enforcement, real investment in student supports.
