SMASHING THE STIGMA ASSOCIATED WITH MENTAL HEALTH
We will be holding an event to raise awareness for mental health at Queen’s University. This event will give students the opportunity to hit a car with a baseball bat, allowing them to metaphorically “smash” the stigma. The car will have various mental health disorders painted on it to allow individuals to not only get their frustrations out, but to do so in solidarity with others. All profits from the event will be donated to Student Wellness Services at Queen’s University.
The Mental Health at Queen’s movement has previously worked with Student Wellness Services to hire a new receptionist in order to expedite interactions with students at the front desk. In addition, support groups have been created on campus to provide students with the opportunity to connect with peers who have been through similar experiences. Mental Health at Queen’s and Student Wellness Services are also in the process of hiring more staff/opening up a new clinic at Queen’s University in order to ensure that students are receiving the mental health care that they deserve.
