Corridor Train Alliance Advocating for sensible dedicated track passenger rail in Eastern Ontario’s 401 corridor to connect people, not divide.

Exactly - follow the 401 corridor - no need to take agricultural land all over the place. That said, all recognize it may not be 300 kph, but it could still be reliable, modern and very valuable for millions of people to unlock Canadian productivity.

See CBC News - Doug Ford press comments in Brockville. Agreeing with what Kingston and Brockville and many others are saying.

Infrastructure corridors have long been talked about in Canada. Where they have been proposed they face public less opposition and have more support than greenfield developments for singular routes.

Most people understand that new singular infrastructure routes for infrastructure are too divisive to nature and communities and indigenous land rights, which is why they often don’t receive social license. What we’re seeing play out now.

Infrastructure combined in an infrastructure corridor has less impact and ca be more acceptable. This is not a new idea. Even in recent history the Harper government recommended corridors be identified and used in Canada, and in recent days the current Carney government just announced policy plans for an energy corridor.

This is our message for most benefit and least impact on natural areas. We already have an existing transportation corridor. There is a critical need for more passenger rail transportation service through the 401/rail corridor vicinity. CTA welcomes and supports the many townships and organizations which are seriously questioning a greenfield route.

CTA is organizing and amplifying voices into a strong message to Ottawa that a dedicated track for reliable passenger rail service is needed in the 401 corridor vicinity, which better aligns with existing needs everywhere and with Canadian values and Canadian infrastructure policy trends.

CTA is of the view that this message needs to be clear and pervasive in order to resonate with decision makers.

We are collecting support on our website:

In recent weeks CTA has met with, presented to, and provided resolutions to many important organizations and municipalities is our region. Thank you to everyone for their time, attention, dialogue, and support for this very important - perhaps generational - issue for our region.

CTA believes in taking time to collaborate, listen, and unite people for one stronger common message to Ottawa: we need reliable regional transportation in the 401 corridor vicinity.

CTA believes that city and rural voices can unite on this message if major infrastructure is to be built in this area.

- City of Kingston (passed a resolution saying any train must be built in the 401 corridor vicinity near here)

- Kingston Chamber of Commerce - and dozens of local major business owners who employ many - agreed

- KEDCO (Kingston Economic Development Corporation) - agreed

- Save South Frontenac - agreed

- many townships

- Federation of Canadian Municipalities

- Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA)

- Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA)

- Cataraqui Regional Conservation Authority

- Mayor Paterson’s community round table of > 20 key social organizations including: United Way, BGC, KEYS, KFLPH, etc

- several local MPs and MPPs

- Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) which includes KGH, HDH, and the regional cancer centre etc

- Queen’s University

- Queen’s biological research station

- St. Lawrence College

- Tourism Kingston and Kingston Accommodation Partners (KAP)

- many other groups have written to use saying they represent hundreds or thousands of people and support this message.

CTA is advocating for reliable regional passenger rail service in SE Ontario.

Where existing communiities are growing, and regional heath care centres, hospitals, universitities, military, businesses, industry, students, and citizens need transportation.

CTA believes national interest projects should unite Canadians, not divide. CTA is advocating for least harm greatest good, utltizing existing infrastructure corridor areas, including around the 401 corridor.

VIA does not currently have a train track. Trains do not run reliably or on time. Existing cities in the corridor should not be neglected. VIA trains yield to freight priority, which is growing and will grow more with port expansion. VIA needs a train track, which does not need to be HSR to serve an important and proven need in this part of Canada.

Corridor Train Alliance (CTA) is advocating for reliable regional passenger train service in the 401 corridor as a national priority project.

Nation building projects should connect not divide communities.

VIA does not have train track, freight has priority and is increasing. No passenger trains are on time through this critical corridor connecting many millions of people. In all future scenerios VIA needs a track and it does not need to be HSR to serve known transportation needs.

There is an urgent and proven need for reliablle passenger rail service for citizens, business, industry, regional health care centres, hospitals, unversities, colleges, students, military bases and institutions which require regional interconnectivity within SE Ontario and to larger cities. Certain 401 cities in our region have notable economic growth stats.
