This is a if loss for our community.

Due to severe and ongoing funding shortfalls, the AVRL needs to reduce service levels in order to stabilize the system.

On July 20, 2026, the following 5 AVRL branches will close:

Hantsport
Kentville
Lawrencetown
Middleton
Port Williams

In order to complete the process of restructuring, and to support our staff through this difficult transition, all AVRL locations and AVRL drop boxes will be closed from June 1 - 14, 2026.

Regular service at all locations will resume as of Monday, June 15, 2026.

All due dates and holds will be suspended. We ask that you please keep all your library materials with you until June 15th when regular service including drop boxes will resume.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to the public during this time.

If you have concerns about these branch closures and service reductions and their impact on you or your community, we encourage you to reach out to your local MLA and the Ministry of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.
