The fire ban in Webequie First Nation has been lifted, accordance with information from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Please continue to burn responsibly. Keep fires supervised, have water nearby and make sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving.

COMMUNITY WATER UPDATE

Webequie First Nation would like to provide an update regarding the discoloured water reported in the community on August 19, 2026.

Following an investigation by Matawa Environmental Public Health, we have been advised that there is currently no risk to the drinking water quality and a Boil Water Advisory is NOT required at this time.

The discolouration occurred after approximately 10,000 litres of water was flushed from a fire hydrant, which activated the fire pumps at the Water Treatment Plant. This caused sediment within the water distribution system to become disturbed, resulting in temporary water discolouration.

If your water appears discoloured:
Please run your cold-water taps until the water runs clear.

No Boil Water Advisory is in effect.
There is currently no identified risk to drinking water quality.

Environmental Core Training – Community Interest Check

We’re looking to see who would be interested in a fully funded Environmental Core Skills program offered by ECO Canada - BEARH Environmental Training Program. This training covers foundation skills, environmental sector basics, technical skills, health & safety, and local knowledge.

We would require a minimum of 8 participants in order to bring this opportunity into community.

This afternoon, Chief Lorraine Whitehead joined community members for the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Mang Shop, owned by Lucy and Morley.

Webequie First Nation is proud to support locally owned businesses established by our community members. Local businesses strengthen our economy, create opportunities, and provide important services for our residents.

Congratulations to Lucy and Morley on this exciting milestone. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Semple Enterprises for their partnership and support in helping make this project a reality.

On behalf of Chief and Council, we wish Lucy and Morley continued success as they begin this new chapter. May the Mang Shop continue to grow and serve the people of Webequie for many years to come.
