🎉 JCI Kelowna Senator Kidnapping: A Reunion Gone Rogue (and a New Era of Senator Engagement!)
What started as a wholesome reunion of past JCI Okanagan members and Senators quickly spiraled into the kind of delightful chaos only JCI Kelowna could pull off.
Fresh off celebrating JCI Kelowna’s 90th birthday, in December, a few of us decided it was time to reconnect with the women who shaped us — the ones who challenged us, inspired us, and helped build the leaders we are today. It was meant to be a simple evening of stories, laughter, and nostalgia.
Then I looked up.
There they were: a group of JCI Kelowna members dressed in their finest Valentine’s attire. Cute, I thought. Festive. Surely just out enjoying their night.
Nope.
Within moments, I realized the truth — they were there for me.
I had just become the latest target in a full‑blown Senator Kidnapping.
For those new to the tradition, a Senator Kidnapping is when newer members plan a night out designed to connect with Senators — both the newly minted and the well‑seasoned. It’s part mentorship, part mischief, and part “you’re not going home early tonight.”
And let me tell you, they hit the jackpot grabbing me and a couple other senators from our initial gathering.
So quickly what was supposed to be a quiet evening turned into a downtown Kelowna bar crawl–slash–scavenger hunt, complete with challenges like finding the hidden foosball table and convincing a random stranger to play to having to serve each other's drinks while tied together. It was chaotic, hilarious, and exactly the kind of JCI magic that keeps us all coming back.
đź’™ A Chapter Committed to Senator Engagement
What makes this even better is that JCI Kelowna isn’t just creating new traditions — they’re doubling down on Senator engagement in fresh, meaningful ways.
One of the newest additions is the Travelling JC, a fun, symbolic handoff that moves each month between a current member and a Senator. It’s a simple gesture with a big impact: strengthening connections, sparking conversations, and reminding us that leadership is a legacy we build together.
If you’re a Senator in the Kelowna area and want to get involved — whether it’s mentorship, socials, or simply reconnecting — reach out to JCI Kelowna or any of us on the Senate Board. There’s a lot of fun, energy, and excitement happening, and we’d love to have you be part of it.
Reunions are wonderful.

But unexpected adventures with the next generation of leaders?
That’s the real heart of JCI — and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We also welcome insights from chapters across the country on how you are engaging your Senators, and encourage Senators everywhere to connect with their local chapters to explore meaningful ways to stay involved. And for those in regions without an active chapter, let’s look at opportunities to connect with one another and build community in places where JCI is not currently established.
