Capes of Kamloops is a video podcast being made with the support of TELUS STORYHIVE, which aims to showcase and celebrate local everyday heroes through the exploration and analysis of film.
Every other Wednesday, starting August 20, 2025, we will be hosting a free public screening at the KFS Theatre to honour a hero profession, such as teaching or nursing. We will later host a filmed podcast interview with a local hero from that profession, to reflect on how their work is showcased in the film and learn more about their occupation and its connection to Kamloops. Our premiere screening on August 20 focuses on our Firefighters. We invite the Kamloops community to watch 1991's Backdraft, starring Robert De Niro, Kurt Russell, and Donald Sutherland, as a way to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of Kamloops Firefighters.
We are looking to encourage attendance and community involvement for this FREE film screening so our local heroes feel celebrated and appreciated by the community, and also to encourage Kamloops to enjoy more local cinema. We will also be collecting donations for the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund at the screening.
