Hi everyone, Big Bear would like to introduce Jennifer Friesen, our new Advocate, Prevention and Education Worker 😊

Jennifer is passionate about supporting children and youth and helping build safer, stronger communities.

Did you know:
• 1 in 3 Canadians experience child maltreatment before age 15
• Most youth know the person who harms them
• Many cases go unreported, meaning support is often delayed

That’s why Youth Advocacy Centers are so important—they bring services together in one safe, supportive place for children, youth, and families.

Jennifer is excited to be part of this work and to connect with our community 💛

We are incredibly grateful to New Afton’s Annual Fundraiser for Local Charity for selecting Big Bear CYAC as this year’s recipient. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to BC Gaming for their generous contribution to this fundraiser.

One of the ongoing challenges for Big Bear CYAC is securing funding for essential day-to-day operating expenses. These include IT costs, office supplies, and the everyday items we provide to children when they visit the Centre. While these needs may seem small, they are vital to ensuring we can continue to offer a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for the kids and families we serve.

This generous donation will make a tremendous difference in helping us cover these important expenses.

Thank you for your support — we truly appreciate it!

At Big Bear CYAC, offering each child or youth the chance to choose and adopt a bear has become a meaningful part of their visit to the Centre. Selecting a bear that speaks to them helps create a sense of comfort, connection, and joy.
We are grateful to share that, following the Blazers’ Teddy Bear Toss game on December 5th and the generous donations from the Kamloops RCMP, our supply of bears has been happily replenished.
In the accompanying photo, Chloe Asselin from Big Bear CYAC is pictured with just a few of the bears available for children/youth visiting the Centre. These thoughtful contributions continue to support positive and welcoming experiences for every young person who walks through our doors.

I recently had the honour of meeting with the Child & Youth Advocacy Centres of Canada. These women are heroes.

Having prosecuted crimes against kids, I’ve seen their critical work and will continue working to keep children safe. Please support your local CYAC as you’re able.

Here is Nicky, one of Big Bear CYAC's advocates, who was at Moccasin Square Gardens during the Stronger Together: Community Voices Against Relationship Violence event.
This was a powerful community event focused on raising awareness, sharing resources, and supporting individuals and families experiencing relationship violence.
This event was organized by the Kamloops Violence Against Women in Relationships (VAWIR) Committee, bringing together community partners and organizations who are working to create safety, support, and change.

A couple of wonderful days helping to create awareness about . Thank you Interior Health/Suspected Child Abuse Neglect Clinic for inviting Big Bear CYAC to spend Oct 24th Child Abuse Prevention day with you at RIH to hand out cookies, coffee and spread awareness about what we all do to protect and support children/youth who have been impacted by abuse.
Big Bear CYAC was at the Blazer Game the next night, handing out 350 balloons and treats to kids and providing info about what Big Bear CYAC does. Thank you Blazers for helping us spread awareness and helping everyone at the game know we were there! Nicky and Tara (from Big Bear) also want to thank their hubbies for blowing up all those balloons and helping out on this night to make it so much fun!

Together with all our other CYACs in BC, Big Bear CYAC is raising awareness about child abuse prevention and the crucial role CYACs play in keeping children and youth safe!

CYACs ensure that children and youth who are victims of abuse, and their families receive the very best client-centred investigation, treatment, support services, and advocacy under one roof.

This month, we are encouraging everyone to join in and wear blue!

POST A PHOTO TO SOCIAL MEDIA OF YOU AND YOUR TEAM OR FAMILY WITH AND TAG YOUR LOCAL CHILD & YOUTH ADVOCACY CENTRE!
