Exploring By The Seat Of Your Pants

Exploring By The Seat Of Your Pants Beaming science, adventure and conservation into classrooms through virtual speakers and field trips.

The primary purpose of Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants is to connect classrooms with guest speakers and virtual field trips from individuals, organizations and institutions around the world. The primary focus is science, exploration and conservation, but we are not restricted to these areas. The secondary purpose of Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants is to fund innovative research, conservati

on, expeditions, etc. Our partners provide lessons and virtual field trips for classrooms and in exchange receive donations to their organizations to carry out research, conservation and expedition activities. Our goal is to have all of the lessons and virtual field trips fully funded by grants as well as donations from individuals, corporations and businesses, relieving all the pressure from classrooms and ensuring we have an incredible selection of guest speakers and virtual field trips that fit all areas of the curriculum, particularly science and geography. Through EBTSOYP, we're aiming to not just take down classroom walls, but blast them right off! Our first year mission is to provide unique lesson experiences for tens of thousands of students across North America and around the world. Along the way creating global citizens, introducing students to exciting projects, important issues, new careers and amazing role models. These experiences can supplement curriculum, but also create experiences that will stick with students. They won't remember every math or language lesson from school, but they will remember the time they were hanging out in a penguin colony in Antarctica or chatting with someone who just rowed across an ocean. We will strive to connect students with leading researchers, daring adventurers and innovative conservationists, and to give them the chance to ask big questions and find meaningful role models and mentors that could lead to exciting career paths.

We were super lucky to have Lunar Science Lead, Marie Henderson, from the mission speak to our classrooms last week!

She walked us through a deeper perspective of the famous picture that came out of the recent trip around the moon.

One of our students asked Dr. Sylvia A. Earle what’s her favourite sea creature to see diving- her response? One of them!

We are still buzzing over our event with the one and only, Sylvia Earle. Such great conservations came out of our students questions and she left our classrooms with words of hope on the state of our oceans.

We learned SO much about Mars and the current tech used to explore it with Dr Tanya Harrison ( on Instagram)

This part of Tanya’s lesson floored Jesse (when it comes to space he is pretty all knowing, so that’s hard to do) where she showed us some evidence of water on Mars!

Comparing it to how salt keeps ice on our sidewalks from freezing in the winter, the theory here is that the salinity of Mars geology is allowing some amounts of water to flow! Which is what we see in the image clips at the top.

This could have huge promise for our search for life on Mars 🦠

Thanks so much for sharing all your wisdom Tanya! You are filled with it and we learned so much 💜

What does space exploration have to do with Canadian National Parks?

In our recent lesson with Parks Canada, we learned why the geology of is of interest to

The icy environment of Jasper mimics the icy layer of a moon off of Saturn, where underneath that icy layer, there is water that could host life 🧬

NASA has been developing technology to explore this moon and testing it on glaciers in Jasper.
