June is a meaningful month across Canada as we recognize National Indigenous History Month and the beginning of Pride Season.
This month is an opportunity to learn about, reflect on, and honour the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and MƩtis Peoples, while also celebrating the diversity and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. At the District of Invermere we are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone feels respected, valued, and connected.
In Invermere, there are a couple of great ways to take part locally.
Columbia Valley Pride Pride in the Park takes place June 13th from 12:00pm–4:00 pm in Pothole Park. This free, all ages event includes live performances, vendors, games, a community BBQ, glitter stations, and a Puppy Parade at 12:30 pm.
Join Ź”akisqnuk First Nationat Lakeshore Campground on June 18th from 5:00pm–7:00 pm for a National Indigenous Peoples Month celebration featuring dinner, drumming, a hide tanning display, moccasin demo, and outdoor games.
Happy National Indigenous History Month and Happy Pride Season, Invermere.
