The volunteers were in to Fairvern yesterday & made some Honey Cream Pumpkin pies & as well as some Apple pies. A big thank you to Angus at Leahy’s Farm Market in Lakefield & Alex at Nature’s Bounty in Port Perry for each giving us a bushel of Cortland apples at their cost for our pies.

We have also added a variety of freshly made butter tarts to the freezer. If you’re looking for some baking for your Thanksgiving dinner, we hope you’ll think of us.

We’ve added some boxes of butter tarts to the freezer for those who are interested. There are plain, raisin, pecan & pecan & raisin. Each box of 6 tarts sell for $12.00.
We also had a request to sell individually wrapped tarts for those who do not want to buy an entire box. They sell for $2.50 each. We’ll see how that goes.

We had a great day on Saturday at our Pancake Breakfast. The Silent Auction was very popular & people were so happy with their purchased. We’d like to thank our wonderful sponsors:

The Friends of Fairvern are holding their largest fundraiser this year on Saturday at the Huntsville Trinity United Church Hall. It is Harvest Feast in downtown Huntsville & we will kick it off at 9:00 am with a Pancake Breakfast & Silent Auction that will run until 1:00 pm. Bidding on the Silent Auction items will close at 1:00 pm at which time the successful bidders will be announced & the auction items can be collected. We wish to thank everyone who donated to the Silent Auction. Once again we are so grateful for the generosity shown to our cause. We would also like to thank those who have sponsored our event & to those local maple syrup providers who supplied us with the maple syrup that will be served with our pancakes. Breakfast promises to be delicious! So come on out & enjoy what we have to offer.

We had a great day at the Burks Falls Fall Fair yesterday. This was our 3rd year to attend as a vendor & each time the weather has been beautiful!
Thank you to our amazing volunteers who made the trek from Huntsville early yesterday morning to set up our tent so we could display the Friends of Fairvern banner & sell our yummy desserts & home baking. A big thank you also to our amazing volunteer bakers who once again came through with a great variety of awesome baked goods.
Marg Dollar went straight home and tabulated what we made so she could tell us this morning at our Executive Committee Meeting. We were very happy to hear that that we made $484.50 + another $165.00 from the 11 pies we baked & took up to the Fair to sell at the Bake Table.
All in all a great & enjoyable day!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
“Shirley”

Fifteen years ago, Shirley’s husband had health problems which resulted in him moving to Fairvern. Shirley became aware how busy staff were in the dining room and she started helping the residents at her husband’s table. Her husband has now been gone 12 years, yet Shirley continues to come to the home for lunch and supper every day where she helps with portering, feeding, and serving tea or coffee. She says she keeps coming back because of her love for the residents.

Words staff use to describe Shirley: faithful, attentive, kind, gentle, and “There are not enough words to describe how much Shirley does for both residents and staff .”

Well, we were in to Fairvern yesterday & made 37 pies. The freezer in the Rose Room is fully stocked with Peach, Strawberry, Strawberry
/Rhubarb, Apple, Blueberry, Bumbleberry & Raisin pies.

We are heading to the Burks Falls Fall Fair again this year on Labour Day. We will be holding a Bake Sale & selling bowls of Strawberries & Ice Cream or for those with more of a sweet tooth, a yummy homemade butter tart topped with ice cream. Come on up to the Fair & visit us.

Well with Summer 2026 winding down & the kids going back to school next week, I hope it’s not too late to showcase Marg’s Summer Themed Friends of Fairvern Cabinet Display. She does such a great job! I hope everyone has had an opportunity to enjoy one or more of the summer activities that she has highlighted.

The Friends of Fairvern are up in Burks Falls this evening for Almaguin Marine’s Bike Night selling ice cream & strawberries or a butter tart & ice cream for $5.00. Or if you’re really hungry you can have all 3 for $8.00.
If you’re in the area come on by. We’ll be here until 8:00 pm. The Marina is also selling a burger or a hotdog with a drink also $5.00. All money raised tonight is for charity.
