WE ARE CLOSED
Well, despite of all researched avenues, begging for help from the City and the amazing people who have bailed us out since last year’s unfortunate situation where our Board Chair (at the time) defrauded us of funds, we have been forced to close the doors.
We served our last meal this Tuesday and it is very painful for us but especially sad for those who required our help.
For those who have judged us, gossiped about us, condemned us because of the criminal acts the board chair has been charged with, we were not complicit, we were not a part of the fraud/theft and if you require more info on those circumstances, go to the BoltFM site, Discover Humboldt for the list of criminal offences she has been charged with. We were not the only victims and many VICTIMS were folks who had very little to give but she took anyway.
We trust that the baton will be passed to those in our Community who care about the less fortunate.
We aren’t talking about a new washing machine, a better bed, some furniture (although badly needed), we are talking about a basic need FOOD, the feeling for the recipients that someone cares and that they are a part of a caring and accepting community.
To those who have supported us over the years:
You are all angels, you are most appreciated and please know that you have made a huge difference with your care and generosity!
We will miss our clients, our donors,our supporters.
Please continue the race against poverty and hunger!

As time draws near for us to close our doors, I am struggling with accepting that this is the only option for us. It must be old age, I cry so easily now. Sentimental fool lol 🥹
I know that the community has a pretty good grasp on the fact that there are many in the Humboldt Community who require assistance for food, other household items and clothing, etc.
This service may have come to an end but service to those in need is very real and getting more and more necessary over time. Times are hard, without any hope of getting any easier.
If you can support the next group who decide to support the struggling families in your community, please donate, volunteer and remember them in your times of giving!
There is no better way to grow as a community but to contribute to its well being as a whole and to promote inclusion!
It has been a privilege to serve for seven years, it has not always been easy but we cared enough to make it work. We hope you will too!
Thank you to those who have faithfully served, contributed, donated and encouraged.

Georgina Colleen Cornelius is facing charges related to alleged fraud, theft, forged documents and failure to comply with an undertaking. The allegations have not been proven in court, and Cornelius has not entered a plea.

A Humboldt woman previously charged with fraud, theft and forgery-related offences is now facing additional allegations as court proceedings continue.

Georgina Colleen Cornelius was first charged by the Humboldt RCMP in May of 2025, following an investigation into a number of alleged fraud and theft incidents in Humboldt.

Court documents show several charges from the Humboldt RCMP.

The allegations are as follows:

Two counts of fraud Section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code involving the Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen. The court documents state that $7,500 was obtained from the organization in August 2024 and another $6,000 in October 2024.

Three counts fraud Section 380 of the Criminal Code by use of immigration document scheme. The court documents state between December 2024 and March 2025 three individuals were defrauded, one for $5300, $6450, and $4000.

Two charges of theft not exceeding $5000 Section 334 of the Criminal Code. April 8th involving an individual and between April 23, 2025, and May 21, 2025, involving Canalta Food Services.

One charge of use, trafficking or possession of forged document Section 368(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. Documents state that on or about May 21, 2025, Cornelius knowingly attempted to cause an individual to act upon a forged document to wit cash deposit receipts as if it were genuine.

One count of fraud Section 380 of the Criminal Code between April 22, 2025, and April 25, 2025, by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means defraud an individual of $4000 by giving payment by cheque from a closed account.

One count of fraud Section 380 of the Criminal Code on or about May 2, 2025, by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means defraud an individual of $4000 by a fake lawyer scheme.

One count of theft not exceeding $5000 Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code on or about August 31, 2025, against an individual.

One count of fraud Section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code between December 30, 2024, and March 31, 2025, by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means defraud a couple exceeding $5000.

One count of fraud Section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code between August 21, 2025, and February 24, 2026, by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means defraud an individual exceeding $5000.

Two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking Section 145(4)(a) between November 1, 2025, and March 25, 2026, where the accused did not reside at the address provided
The allegations above have not yet been proven in court and Cornelius has not entered a plea on the charges.

The most difficult but necessary announcement to share!
We will be closing the doors of the Humboldt Soup Kitchen on the 22nd of September. We have so many reasons we must do this and an equal amount of reasons we wish we didn’t have to! Many have been involved since James began his mission in 2015.
As the Executive Director, I have been with the Soup Kitchen for 7 years and it has been my dream job! It is regrettable but even good things must come to an end. It has been our pleasure to be of service and sincerely hope that someone will pick up the baton and continue the race against hunger! Please only post positive thoughts and comments, this is hard enough without backhanded comments and criticism! We love what we do and we are sadder and conflicted more than you could know! Thank you for your continued support. 🤗😊🙏

This is a great opportunity to help families who are struggling, so the children are not with out when school starts! If your family, group, friends or co-workers would like to help the less fortunate, this is a great endeavour!
