Ermineskin Brighter Futures is a department within the Ermineskin Cree Nation that offers a variey of Mental health and Wellness related programs and services in the Maskwacis area. Current Programs and Services provided by Ermineskin Brighter Futures:
Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP)
Improves maternal and infant nutritional health by providing a greater depth of service to women
earlier in their pregnancy and for a duration postpartum. Includes:
- Weekly Food Coupon
- Infant car seat upon delivery
- Christmas Hamper
PCAP
Support program that offers one on one support with women in their child bearing years to work towards preventing FASD births in community. (Visits have been adapted to Covid protocols and will be arranged with clients to their discretion)
- Referrals and access to services in community and in the area.
- Community presentations
-Transportation to Appointments
Children's Oral Health initiative (COHI)
Addresses high rates of preventable dental disease by promoting complementary good oral health practices
Includes:
- Fluoride treatments
- COHI Day, where community children can be provided fluoride varnishing
- Home Visits
- Dental health education sessions
- Distribution of oral hygiene products
Mental Health
Culturally sensitive programming that address the gaps in the range of mental health services and activities related to crisis intervention and postvention to First Nations and Inuit community members
Includes courses and trainings such as:
- Uprooting Intergenerational Trauma
- Trauma Recovery - Group counselling
- Grief Support
- Sexual Abuse disclosure retreat
- Choices, Givers 1 and 2
- Various Personal Development courses
**All programs include snacks and transportation**
Solvent Abuse
Supports the community of Ermineskin Cree Nation to reduce the level of solvent addiction
Includes:
- Trauma Recovery - Group counselling
- Awareness workshops on depression, substance abuse, and relapse
- Comfort allowance and care package to community members attending rehab
National Aboriginal Youth Su***de Prevention Strategy (NAYSPS)
A national approach to indigenous youth su***de prevention in Canada that aims to increase protective/preventative factors such as resiliency to reduce the risk factors associated with su***de. Includes:
- Youth Group - focus on cultural teachings and coping skills
- ASIST courses
- Self-Talk courses
- Self-esteem and Confidence boosting courses
- Youth cultural camps
