nts of these areas made their concerns clear that they did not want a gas plant in their respective backyards…... (NIMBY) ……and the Liberal government was fully aware of the concerns of the residents, the government did nothing about these concerns. During the fall 2011 provincial election internal Liberal polling as well as arms length polling by media outlets and professional polling companies suggested that the Liberal would lose the 4 MPP seats related to the areas that the power plant were located,( the plants were currently under construction and or construction deposits paid)
The Liberal party including but not limited to the following people fully realized that they required these additional 4 seats to form a majority/minority government and to keep their Ministerial salaries and in the case of McGuinty his Premier salary; Dalton McGinty, Dwight Duncan, Kathleen Wynne, and Chris Bentley to name a few. It was at this time in the middle of the 2011 election that the Liberal government Dalton“et al” decides to cancel and move the power plants, at “their”{Dalton et al} estimated cost of 40 million dollars CDN. This was done purely to save the 4 MPP seats that polls indicted the Liberals would lose and to keep the higher salaries of Ministers and of the Premier. The Auditor General has estimated that the total direct costs for the cancelation and moving of the 2 power plants will be over 550 Billion dollars, and given that the province is broke this will have to be financed via a bond issue most likely over 25 years, this will increase the cost to the taxpayer to over 1.25 billion dollars over the 25 years… for the sake of 4 MPP seats ….. that actually resulted in a minority government for the Liberals.
