So far, 5 books have been fully translated into Arabic, with 8 books currently underway. This growing collection reflects a shared commitment to connecting knowledge, language, and people through high-quality open groundwater education.

There is still meaningful work ahead. We are now inviting volunteers to help translate the remaining books, so that even more readers across the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond can access this valuable knowledge.

A FINAL NOTE FROM DR. EILEEN POETER: FAREWELL TO THE GROUNDWATER PROJECT ON MY RETIREMENT

For the past seven years, the Groundwater Project has been the center of my world. It has been educational and fulfilling, thanks to the incredible dedication of our volunteers and users. We have successfully built a truly exceptional, open-access global resource.

As I say farewell, I extend a massive thank you to everyone who contributed to the Project. I am profoundly grateful to Amanda Sills, my closest colleague, who is the absolute lifeblood of the Groundwater Project. Amanda has worn every imaginable hat for the organization with unmatched competence and grace - we simply would not be here without her.

Protecting water resources starts with understanding groundwater contamination.

Groundwater contamination affects drinking water, agriculture, biodiversity, and ecosystem health. Its causes are varied and complex, ranging from septic systems and chemical spills to oil and gas production. Understanding how contaminants move through subsurface environments is essential for managing risk and developing effective remediation strategies.

A new monograph, Groundwater Contamination and Geoenvironmental Impacts of Upstream Oil and Gas Production, examines the environmental consequences of upstream oil and gas activities on groundwater systems. The book covers contamination pathways, well integrity, hydraulic fracturing, gas migration, monitoring, forensic examples, and numerical simulation.

It is part of the Groundwater Project Contamination Collection, which includes a wide range of free educational resources for hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, students, and practitioners.

The book highlights an extraordinary collaborative achievement in groundwater management centered on the Oak Ridges Moraine Aquifer. It describes how all levels of government in the Greater Toronto Area created the Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program (ORMGP) to collect, manage, and safeguard subsurface data as a public resource. The program developed advanced online tools that allow users to access, visualize, and analyze groundwater information, and it partnered with the Geological Survey of Canada to build a sophisticated geologic and hydrogeologic framework. Its system also serves as a powerful educational platform, supporting learning from elementary classrooms to graduate‑level hydrogeology. Overall, the book showcases how visionary leadership and long‑term cooperation produced a world‑class groundwater data repository that strengthens science, planning, and water management for future generations.

Thanks to the dedication of our volunteer translators, The Groundwater Project is expanding access to groundwater education for the Italian community with warmth, collaboration, and shared purpose.

We’re proud to share that 7 books have already been translated into Italian, with 4 books currently in progress. Every translation helps bring trusted groundwater knowledge closer to students, professionals, and readers across Italy.

There’s still important work ahead. We’re now looking for volunteers to help translate the remaining 58 books and broaden access to this knowledge for even more Italian readers.

We had the privilege of interviewing the brilliant minds at KGS Group founding partner Bert Smith, Jason Mann, and Bonnie Hoffensetz, about their incredible work protecting groundwater during the 50km Winnipeg Floodway Expansion.
