Two of our paramedics, Paul & Heather, along with their student, rescued a baby deer that fell off a cliff near highway 403. The baby deer had an obvious broken leg from the fall. After gently approaching and rescuing the deer, they called for animal control who took the deer to the animal hospital for care.

Often acts like these go unnoticed, but today we’d like to say thank you for going above and beyond for an animal in need.

The “not sustainable” situation will only worsen if these additions are not met. Paramedics are facing higher responses and the community deserves adequate emergency healthcare coverage.

The Hamilton Spectator reports today that despite Russel Crockers’ presentation to councillors on Thursday which showed: an increase in response times (5.4% not 3.3% as predicted), difficulty in meeting response time targets (worse than 2020), running at a minimum 10 paramedic deficit relative to the approved city’s master plan and that the current situation is “not sustainable” he later told the Spectator that he doesn’t know yet if the service will request additional staff in 2027.

Unlike other municipalities the City of Hamilton has not recognized the value of its Paramedics and has refused to negotiate a fair wage on par with other comparable services.

Last but not least..
”Meet a Hamilton Paramedic” - Greg ⬇️

Cześć, I’m Greg.
I’ve been a paramedic with the City of Hamilton for 17 years.

My family emigrated to Canada from Poland when I was 7. I initially didn’t think of becoming a paramedic growing up but after a rideout shift with a crew from
Toronto I was hooked.

I completed my Primary Care diploma at Humber and a few years later completed my Advance Care diploma at
Durham College.

I work with some amazing colleagues who are really passionate about this job. I have been part of our MIH team and am currently part of the CEBU (bike unit). I like participating in the summer softball tourneys with my coworkers. One of the things I enjoy about this job is how you’ll never know what to expect. It comes with
both high and lows. But it’s the people around you that make the job not feel like just work.

One of the things that help keep me grounded is my wonderful family. Ashleigh (also a Hamilton paramedic) is an amazing mother to our two children, Logan and
Anderson. We enjoy spending our summers outdoors camping and the winters skiing/snowboarding.

I look forward to continue serving Hamilton as a paramedic and being part of a great team.

”Meet a Hamilton Paramedic” - Blake ⬇️

Blake has been a Hamilton Paramedic for over 45 years. He has been an Advanced Care Paramedic since 1988. Every single shift, Blake brings great amount of experience to every call.

Blake has taken dozens of students throughout his career and you can find them working all throughout Ontario.

On his off time, Blake spends time with his wife who he has been married to for 40 years. Blake also enjoys walks with his dachshunds, Mrs Maisel and Finnigan.

Ive personally had the pleasure of working with Blake during my first year as a Paramedic and have nothing but great stories to share. During that time I will always appreciate the things I have learnt working alongside him.
