Join neighbours and HRM staff for a Community Safety Assessment (CSA) Walk to help make our public spaces safer, more accessible, and welcoming for everyone.

📆 Date: Monday, September 29
🕕 Time: 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
📍 Meeting Point: Shirley’s Splash Pad, Dartmouth Common

Together, we’ll walk or roll a 1km route, using a mobile tool to assess the area through a gender equity, accessibility, and safety lens. Your input will shape real recommendations to improve our community spaces.

Sam Austin - Councillor Dartmouth Centre just shared a comprehensive council update (linked below).

We’ve pulled out a few key highlights, but encourage you to read the full post for a deeper understanding of the decisions shaping our city.

💰Budget Alert: Halifax is facing a $60 million+ shortfall—the options? Tough service cuts or tax increases. Other solutions like efficiency savings, grants, or new fees won’t close the gap.

🚲 Morris Street Bike Lane: Morris Street is back on, acknowledging the street’s unique challenges and local concerns. No solution will be perfect.

➕Other Decisions:
• Regional Plan moved to public hearings.
• Student transit passes now include home‑schooled & private school students.
• Taxi & limo fare adjustments, carbon monoxide safety steps approved, and more.

With toll booths officially removed at the Macdonald Bridge, Halifax Harbour Bridges is reimagining the boulevard space — and they want your input!

Early suggestions include a rock garden (like the MacKay Bridge), a fountain, or a clock… but we know this community can dream bigger (and greener 🌱). The design must be fiscally responsible, low-maintenance, and not a gathering space — this is still a working road. Think curb appeal, not community park.

FALL 2024 Meeting
We are organizing our fall meeting of the Harbourview Residents' Association for Wednesday December 4 from 7 - 9 pm in the large meeting room at the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre (45 Ochterloney Street). We hope the meeting time and location give those with young children more time for supper etc.

The meeting will focus on community safety/security and development. We plan to have the following individuals/groups attending to give you information and answer your questions.
