The family Resource Association has been a part of the Eastern Shore community since 1994, and we now serve over 500 families every year in a variety of locations, from Lawrencetown / Lake Echo to Ship Harbour. The Family Resource Centre is located in the Porters Lake Shopping Centre above the Royal Bank and, although this space has served us well since 2005, we are now actively looking for a larg
er ground floor location in the Porters Lake area. We are non-profit, charitable organization governed by a 8 member Policy Board. With the help of some Provincial Government, United Way, FLIEF and other small amounts of grant funding & community donations, we work with our Eastern Shore partners (which include local schools, health services providers, public library, literacy network etc) to provide a range of quality, interactive programs & services (free of charge), to families across the Eastern Shore. These include:
● Pre-Natal / New Parent Groups
● Early Learning / Child Development Playgroups
● Family Literacy programs
● Play & Learn / Parent Resource Lending Libraries
● Parent Programs / Workshops
We are also able to provide one-on-one, confidential family support through our Home Visiting Support Programs. These are:
● Healthy Beginnings – for families with newborns – age 3 years
Healthy Beginnings is an enhanced home visiting initiative in partnership with Capital Health, Public Health Services. Our Home Visitor provides extra support for young families in Musquodoboit Valley communities as well as on the Eastern Shore.
● Parenting Journey – for families with children ages 0 – 18 years
Parenting Journey is a community based, in-home / on-site / by phone / family support program funded by the Dept. ESFRA is one of only eleven Family Resource or Early Intervention Centres chosen to offer the programs in Nova Scotia at this time.
