Seniors for Climate - Halifax

Seniors for Climate - Halifax We’re seniors deeply alarmed by the climate crisis. One in four Canadians — we have outsized political, economic and social power. And we vote!

Our goal is to build a Canada-wide community of seniors to create a liveable future. We have a major role to play and we have motive, commitment and opportunity. Along with our children and grandchildren, we face a climate emergency. We need faster and better climate action. Later Is Too Late! Our Main Messages
We’re in a climate emergency. We need to act Now! We must phase out the use of fossil f

uels. Climate change is affecting our health – extreme heat, wildfires, floods, storms, droughts. Action on climate must be intergenerational and intersectional: joining with youth, First Nations, the disadvantaged and equity seeking populations. We’re all in this together. We need to speed up the transition to renewable power and clean energy. We must stop our government, banks and pension plans from aggravating the climate crisis.

It is truly frustrating that making a buck of profit is more important to our overlords (federal and provincial ) than a future. More important than saving people or the natural world, or a planet with life on it at all.

The State of the Global Climate report reveals a planet in crisis, with energy imbalance trapping heat and fueling extreme weather. Are we willing to stand by as our world faces catastrophic consequences? It's time to take urgent climate action and transition to renewable energy for a sustainable fu...

Shoulder to Shoulder Rally - Tuesday March 3, 12 p.m. at the N.S. Legislature! 📣
In November, hundreds of people from communities across Mi'kma'ki/Nova Scotia came out for the Shoulder to Shoulder rally to call on the Houston government to respect Treaty Rights and democratic processes.
Since then, Houston has doubled down on his attacks on Mi'kmaw Rights, his attempts to divide our communities and his ongoing efforts to sell our future off to wealthy corporate interests. We've seen the government spread harmful lies about Indigenous communities, gut the wildlife division of the Department of Natural Resources, earmark millions of dollars to push risky, polluting fracked gas and more.
But we're not backing down.
We know that when we are united, we are unstoppable. So on Tuesday, March 3, we're bringing our message directly to the N.S. Legislature - and we need your voice!
Join communities and groups from across the province at 12 p.m. outside the Granville St. side of Province House and help us send a clear message to the Houston government: stop selling out our future. It's time to respect the Treaties, our democratic processes and the voices of our communities!
