The farm is thriving! 🌱

It's exciting to watch the gardens come to life. Our plants are growing strong, we've installed trellises to support our peas as they climb, and the flower beds are bursting with colour and attracting all kinds of beneficial pollinators.

We're also seeing our asparagus patch begin to bloom—a beautiful sign of a healthy and productive growing season ahead!

One of our favourite moments this week was capturing a busy bee hard at work pollinating the asparagus flowers. 🐝

🍅 Free Tomato Plants Available! 🍅

We have some extra tomato plants looking for a new home. If you'd like to grow your own tomatoes this season, feel free to stop by the farm and pick some up! The plants can be found beside the pile of soil (as shown in the photo) and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Community Planting Day Success!

What an incredible day at the Flour Mill Community Farm!

As we celebrate the farm's 10th anniversary this year, we are especially grateful for the amazing volunteers, community members, students, supporters, and partners who joined us for our Community Planting Day. Thanks to your hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication, we were able to get hundreds of plants into the ground and take another big step toward a successful growing season.

Over the past 10 years, the Flour Mill Community Farm has grown through the support of people who believe in the power of community, local food, education, and environmental stewardship. This planting day was a wonderful reminder of what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared purpose.

Whether you spent the day planting, watering, hauling soil, preparing beds, setting up, or simply stopping by to lend your support, your contribution helped make the day a tremendous success. Every helping hand played a role in preparing the farm for another season of growing fresh food, creating learning opportunities, and strengthening community connections.

We can't wait to watch these gardens flourish throughout the summer and share the harvest with our community in the months ahead.

Thank you for helping us celebrate 10 years of growing food, cultivating knowledge, and building community. Here's to another season of learning, growing, and giving back together!

Big things are happening at the Flour Mill Community Farm this week!

We’re excited to share that our soil has officially been delivered and the farm has now been tilled in preparation for another growing season. These improvements are helping us expand our growing space and get ready to grow even more fresh, local vegetables for the community this year.

A huge thank you to Iron Plaid Sudbury for lending a hand and helping make this possible. We truly appreciate the community support that helps keep the farm growing year after year.

To kick off our 10th Anniversary Season, we are hosting our annual Community Planting Day, and you’re invited to help us get the 2026 harvest into the ground!

Whether you have a green thumb or just want to support the neighborhood, we need your hands.

If you have a shovel, please bring it, we have limited tools available to go around. And if you have a Wheel Barrel even better! As we had 2 dump trucks of soil delivered this week that we are in the process of spreading onto the farm before the community planting day!

Spring is here, and we’re getting the farm grounds ready for the season ahead! 🌱

Our team has been busy prepping our spaces, cleaning up, and making sure everything is in place for planting, growing, and welcoming everyone back to the farm. The primroses are already starting to bloom — a beautiful reminder that the growing season is just around the corner! 🌸

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be working on infrastructure improvements, preparing garden beds, organizing tools and supplies, and getting the farm ready for another season of community, learning, and fresh food.

A big thank you to our amazing crew and volunteers who help make this work possible. We can’t wait to share another great season with our community! 💚

Earth Day is often seen as a moment for awareness, but the real work of sustainability doesn’t happen in a single day. It happens through consistent, local action.

Sometimes it feels like the cards are stacked against us, but we keep moving forward. We continue to grow food at the Flour Mill Community Farm, and we create hands-on summer jobs and learning opportunities. We support local businesses through Green Economy North, and help people find meaningful ways to take climate action right here in their community through retrofits Smart Commute.

This work is powered by people showing up, learning, contributing, and taking action in ways that fit their skills and time. Whether you volunteer, work with us, become a member, donate, or visit the farm to see local food systems in action, there are many ways to get involved.

Earth Day is a reminder that real impact comes from what we do together every day. That is worth celebrating.

We’re back! 🌱❄️

A blanket of snow, 10 years of roots, and a brand new season on the horizon.

Welcome to the 2026 season at the Flour Mill Community Farm! After a quiet winter, we’re getting ready to get our boots on the ground again as soon as the snow melts—and we couldn’t be more excited.

If you’re new here, we aren’t your average garden.

We are Sudbury’s first urban farm—a social enterprise dedicated to:
✅ Empowering Youth: Providing local teens with their first jobs and leadership skills
✅ Food Justice: Growing fresh, affordable produce right in the heart of the Flour Mill
✅ Community Growth: Turning empty urban spaces into lush, edible landscapes

This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary 💚
That’s a decade of harvests, muddy boots, hard work, and fresh veggies shared across Ryan Heights and the Greater Sudbury community.

The ground might still be frozen, but behind the scenes we’re busy planning a season full of growth (and maybe a little 10-year celebration mayhem 👀).

🌿 This year we planning on adding some Infrastructure Improvements to the farm - like new soil, raised beds, and vertical growing spaces. We'd love you input and we want to hear from you.
