Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

For those of us who work in, or with, Aboriginal Head Start programs we recognize and honor that reconciliation can be found in the little moments that happen every day.

It is a child hearing their language spoken.

It is an Elder sharing a teaching.

It is little hands learning to drum, create, gather and care for the land.

It is families welcomed into spaces where their culture and knowledge belong.

It is children growing up knowing who they are, where they come from, and that they are valued.

Today we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the generations who continue to carry their stories.

And we recognize the responsibility we carry forward — to create spaces where Indigenous children are surrounded by culture, language, family, community, love and belonging.

Because reconciliation isn’t only something we talk about on September 30.

It lives in the little moments. 🧡

I had the great privilege and honor to attend Gift Lake Head Start’s Culture Camp last week.

It was wonderful to see Head Start families spending time together, with children learning through hands-on cultural activities and the community coming together to share knowledge, stories, and laughter. These are the experiences that help children build a strong sense of belonging and connection.

Thank you to Roxanne, the Gift Lake Head Start team, the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and everyone who were so welcoming and made the camp possible. I’m grateful to have been part of it and spend time on that beautiful land. ♥️

The Canada FASD Research Network, with support from the Public Health Agency of Canada, has launched a new online FASD training course designed to increase knowledge, awareness, and practical approaches for supporting individuals and families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The training is free to access during the pilot period and includes five modules covering awareness, diagnosis, supports, prevention, and strategies for children, adults, and families.

If you work with children, families, community programs, health services, or simply want to learn more about FASD, I encourage you to check it out.

We had such a great time at the Growing Together conference hosted by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government this past weekend. The Photo Booth was a blast! And the generous resources we were given are amazing! Of course, always nice to run into Head Start staff!
