📢 Major news Grande Prairie photographers!

The CAPA Coast-to-Coast Photo Walk is officially back on Saturday, September 19th, and the Grande Prairie Photography Club is hosting our local meet-up right here in Grande Prairie! 🍁📷

Whether you're shooting on a brand-new mirrorless setup, a vintage film camera, or literally just the smartphone in your pocket - you are 💯 invited. This isn't a high-stress workshop or a contest for the best gear. It's a super casual, totally FREE community walk to explore the Muskoseepi Trails, share a few laughs, and capture our corner of Alberta together!

🎒 Who should come? ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE. Beginners, pros, kids, grandparents, and anyone who loves taking photos or wants a fun weekend activity with friends.

📍Where: Meeting at 6815 Kateri Dr. Grande Prairie

⏰️ When: Saturday, September 19th at 10am

The Heart of the Photograph - Presented by David duChemin

'A compelling photograph is more than visual. It's visceral. We don't only see it, we feel it. It's more than just focusing our lenses, it's also focusing the attention of those who will experience our photographs. Great gear helps, but what about the other tools? What about juxtaposition and mystery, story, mood, depth, and energy? What about the power of a great moment? And when it comes to gear, is it enough that we have all the tools, like great optics, or should we be developing a sensitivity to the unique ways in which different focal lengths amplify the feeling of a scene when used well?

The Heart of the Photograph is an inspiring presentation about these very ideas, and it will change the way you make your photographs and reignite the spark if it has cooled off.'

David duChemin, photographer and best-selling author, has taught this amazing craft on all seven continents and appeared on stages for companies like Amazon and Apple to teach the human side of photography. With over 35 years of experience, his calling is to help photographers create images that light a spark in people, communicate clearly, and captivate hearts and imaginations.

Club member Kim White, "I was out on one of those only-on-a-winter-morning kind of walks when I noticed this young lady's sunglasses from the colour of the rims and those mirrored lenses that popped against the whites and silvers of the morning. I asked to take her photograph, and after some discussion, she agreed. Sometimes it's the small details that make the shot."

What a great night at the Grande Prairie Photography Club's Monday meeting! 🙌

We had an awesome hands-on session all about continuous lighting, led by the talented club member Maj Jose - thank you, Maj 👏 Everyone had a blast learning about Rembrandt lighting and other lighting techniques, and even more fun by putting them into practice.

Huge shoutout to everyone who was a good sport and took turns modeling for the camera 😄- teamwork at its finest! And thank you to all the members who jumped in to share tips, tricks, and knowledge along the way. That supportive, learn-together vibe is what makes this club so special.

Kick off the new year with a fun, hands-on learning night!

👉Join us Monday, January 19th at 7:00 PM at the Centre for Creative Arts (9904 101st Ave, Grande Prairie).

This month’s meeting will be led by club member Maj Jose, who will introduce us to continuous lighting and guide us through a portrait session. We will then break into small groups to build a three-light portrait setup step by step. A great chance to learn, experiment, and have some fun together!
