May 5th we come together to honor the victims and shine a light on the ongoing crisis of colonial and gender-based violence, knowing that collective awareness and action can spark meaningful change. The REDress Project, inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black’s powerful art installation, features red dresses in public spaces to symbolize the presence of missing women and call spirits back to their loved ones. In Indigenous teachings, the color red holds profound significance, as it's believed to be the only color spirits can see. Indigenous women, disproportionately impacted by systemic injustices, face compounded harms shaped by poverty, inadequate housing, gendered violence, and discrimination. However, by acknowledging these injustices and working together, we can create a safer, more equitable world. Join us in honoring the victims and raising awareness – together, we can drive positive change and create a brighter future. 💗
